there’s good beers to be had at Glasto. Boomtown was horrific. Only shite beer/cider everywhere. My mate paid £9 for 2 CANS of Strongbow at a bar. He felt violated

Where are the good beers? The otters pocket in the Avalon is distinctly average. Beers in acoustic bar slightly above ave.

should see you right

I’d rather drink Tuborg that that stuff. First mouthful makes you feel all like you’re at a festival and buccolic, then you realise you’ve got a pint of wood juice to get through.

Michael should be supporting local beers. Current setup is token to a fault.

What local breweries could supply enough beer? And trying to organise multiple  small breweries to supply enough would be a nightmare.

the only option is one big brewery supplies the bulk with a few local merchants like the cider bus supplying more refined stuff..

wonder how many pints they sell over the weekend. Only figures i can find are 400,000 in 2002

it's around a million or so, i've heard.

this is the reason.  Glasto Worker has gone into detail about it somewhere on here.  Only the big companies can get it on site in the quantities required.

Aren’t most of the bars outsourced to WBC? Not sure how much sway Michael would have personally.

Nope, WBC have most of the larger bars, but there's multiple providers on site, Avalon being the next biggest.

But even then, the main bars will be bound by whatever supply contracted the festival has signed, don't think either of them have any significant inflience in the matter.

And even once you get past the supply issues, there's also consideration to getting the product on and around site in sufficient quantity with minimum vehicle movement, especially as reaching many bars means going across or through public areas - so as the main beer you need something that can literally be brought in by the tanker and parked there until empty.

I fear we’re getting dangerously close to another essay from Glasto Worker.

does support local beers.

It appears tokenism because those breweries can't supply beer in huge quantities - which is why those local beers are spread around different bars.

Otter Ale? That the Hill yer gonna die on Neil?

^_^

there's much more than Otter, if you go to different bars.

And the reason why there's different beers at different bars is because the likes of Otter couldn't supply enough beer for all bars. I'm largely disappointed with the choice of beer at any bar I go to, but that's not because Eavis isn't supporting local breweries - he is.

It's either because someone is ordering the wrong (for me) beers, or because the logistics of having a huge selection at all bars is beyond what the festival wants to do.

Remember, most people are happy to drink shit lager.

    • Think Pulp are optimistic, not in terms of size but just that they've been on the road (albeit not intensively) for 3 years in a row and it feels like EotR is the deliberate end of the cycle.   Would be fairly surprised if they're active next year.
    • 👍 plus they brought their own screens 📺 either side of the stage.
    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
    • No argument that he’s bigger than ever, I just have no enthusiasm for it.
    • Keep in mind those crowds were full of teenagers. Glasto aint full of teenagers. Theres no way she could demand headline and get it because they got other acts to give the slot to who deserve it with a bigger catalog. Reading/Leeds would headline her cause its still LN.  If the fest was struggling its Other headline. But a 3rd down Pyramid is likely the landing spot. Itll go down like the Camila Cabello performance pretty much.
