Bearded Theory 2019

Got back about midday. First Bearded Theory so had no idea what to expect. Small but perfectly formed and has the festival vibe I like (not always the case with some small festivals).

Made it to the Woodlands in time for the Efestivals meet but with a disgruntled child in tow rapidly ended up in parent mode rather than trying to meet anyone. Popped by Oxfam to buy the obligatory hat (but couldn't see anyone that might be Losing my hair).

Plenty of good food choices, weather was good. Bandwise just wondered about and saw whatever I found at the time. From memory I enjoyed Faithless (Sister Bliss), Editors, Reef, Little Steven, Lottery Winners but I saw other part sets and random bands that entertained.

Loved the Woodland area, reminded me a bit (inevitably) of the Glade.

And there was virtually no litter. Even last night, last band in the woodlands, the Skatalites, there was a handful of cans on the ground but that was more or less it. Might be down to the demographic, but most people seemed to find it no problem to walk the few feet to a bin. Or it might be down to the reusable plastic glasses but either way its a noticeable contrast to Glastonbury.

Might just be o2 but did anyone else have near zero phone coverage for most of the festival? Meeting up was doing by looking for someone rather than texting.

This was our littluns first festival. It took him a couple of days to get used to the crowd and find his feet but by the end he was much happier and wasn't asking to go back home or to the van. Which is good as he has Glastonbury in a month, so at least he has some idea of what to expect even though the scale may still be a problem.

Definitely. Saw him last night dancing over a slightly bemused reclining punter who couldn't quite work out if he was supposed to be amused or concerned.

I had no expectations about BT, but it turned out to be a great few days and I'd like to think I'll get back there next year.

Hi DVB, sorry to have missed you but thanks for calling in anyway, hope you liked your hat.  This was the shop's second time at BT and it went really well, long time BTers seemed to think that the shop is a positive addition to the festival and everybody seemed to be having a really great time.

It was my first BT and I loved it, particularly loved the Something Else Tea Tent -  Muddy Summers And The Dirty Field Whores were excellent in there. Also a shout out for The Blinders - new to me but I loved their set.

The after party last night got very messy when we ended up creating our own beards with noodles - there were a few sore heads this morning whilst packing up the shop.

That was an amazing weekend! I looked for you all at the Efests meet but it was rammed for Beans and I simply had to be at the front ish ?. I’ve survived on less than 12 hours sleep over the 4 days, mainly due to the Magic Teapot being brilliant! Can’t wait to visit it at Glastonbury. I’ve got to say BT is definitely my favourite festival. I am officially broken so it’s an early night for me.

@Nobody Interesting it was really lovely to see you and Mrs NI, you’re both looking so well.

My first Bearded. Overall had a great time, was really impressed by the organisation, the cleanliness and respectful behaviour of the festival goers (very little litter, nobody pissing everywhere, nobody totally off their face), good range of music. It did seem to take a couple of days for people to relax and warm up though. The atmosphere on Sunday was brilliant, people laughing and chatting, whereas Friday and Saturday it seemed a bit glum. Weather was really fortunate. Hope to go again.

There's alot of love for this festival on here, unfortunately I couldn't go this year due to work. Checked next years rota and I'm off, so with all the positive comments, I'm definitely going to be there.

Mike I can assure you there’s nothing not to love. The staff and organisation are top notch, there’s a good range of food and drink, music is banging, it’s quite cheap for tickets, and the punters are happy happy people. I didn’t witness one piece of litter leaving this morning. I will most certainly my be buying tickets as soon as they come out.

Superb, I'll be doing the same. Any idea when tickets are released?

Really good festival, I thought. Getting in was a breeze, campsites not too cramped, good beers and great prices, excellent food selection.

The music was magnificent, especially Suede, Editors, Oh Sees, Steel Pulse, Heavy Lungs and Slow Readers. I had pegged Idlewild as set of the weekend though, until Little Steven blew me away. What an inspired booking!

What a great festival! First time for me, I was with Oxfam, with Mrs C who went last year. Have to say the festival has a fantastic vibe about it and the punters are so nice. Everyone we came across the whole weekend as stewards were great fun, were really going for it big time, but were respectful (well mostly ?).

Doves were the highlight for me, not expected but smashed it. Oh See’s and Heartbreakers whilst not my normal thing were great. Honourable mention for Little Stevie who threw the kitchen sink at it. A bit cheesy for my tastes mind.

tried to meet up on Thursday at 5.30 in Woodlands but couldn’t make out the E festers group as it was so busy. Stood by the bar in the end to watch Beans. But did catch up with fellow Oxfam’ers @Pinhead and @Losing my hair which was nice.

Hopefully see you more Efesters at festivals to come this summer, Glastonbury, Latitude, Boomtown or Beautiful Days.

Will be at BT again next year for sure!

First time for us with two kids in tow and a number of friends and neighbours, and my parents’ first festival  we all loved it and can’t wait to come back.

You know its going to be a great festival when the stewards are too laid back to put your wrist bands on and ask that you put them on yourself .

Then I  was in stitches when my partner put hers on ( by herself ) then moaned it was on too tight !

I am on 02 and it was useless throughout  the festival , even early morning which is usually a good time to call out . Its  no great problem but i wanted to send folks not there the odd picture of bands and i send my mate pictures of portable generators ( don't ask ) , but none got out .

My partner is on Vodaphone and she could use her phone but coverage not great ,  but at least her phone could call and receive

EE was broadly OK by festival standards - always a decent signal, data was generally available but slow with an occasion drop out.

Yeah, I had certain good spots where I had to keep visiting. I was busy sorting out my own music stuff over the weekend so had to be on as much as possible.

Sorry the meet point was too busy to catch anyone, and I also arrived 10-15 min late!

2 weeks on site and now back in reality, loved this year and glad for all the positive comments.

What a brilliant festival it is, so proud of the organisers, crew, volunteers and especially you lot that come and make it what it is.... I had an amazing time!

Thanks for those.

It's not just for meeting up with people that's an issue, it is also  because the is no point in making sure our child has a wristband with our phone numbers on if we can't be contacted. I think I'll take an EE PAYG sim with next time.

As the people in the welfare tent said to me on Sunday morning (after my lovely Mariachi breakfast at the Hurley Burley Cafe ?), those who put wristbands on their children are the least likely to lose them! But the irony of no signal wasn’t lost on us either. We just kept pointing the welfare tent out to our two each time we passed it in the hope they’d remember to go there.

My friend worked for Oxfam and during Suedes set  she was asked to go and look in the crowd for a missing 3 year old girl .  Thats all the information she was given.  Missing children seemed to be the biggest issue whilst she was on shift  even in the CV fields and the childrens area .  Followed by festival goers unable to find their caravans , campers or cars !

    • Really thought 2025 was going to be the year,  but alas we wait
    • Playing a bit of devils, isn't that the case for any act? If you csn get a bigger sub or or 3rd etc the next will play lower. Tbh they would probably be best headlining second so in the kinda in between slot, that would be better. Get GC on second and Avril on main subbing Friday for Blink. But I'd expect it would be Avril sub and GC second another day.
