2019 Headliners

Won't bother me at all but I was genuinely kind of shocked to hear The Strokes being talked about as a headliner.

I'm a fairly big music listener (albeit slightly above the age bracket of the demographic for The Strokes and just never realised they were that big. I was amazed that they had as many albums as I have now discovered they have. I thought 'Is This It' was it, and until yesterday Last Nite was the only track I would have remembered. I'd have thought Other Stage Headliner or even sub headliner.

Not that that means anything I don't pretend to know how big most acts that I do like are. It does feel like they would want to announce something bigger than them.

Both my mum and dad have heard of the strokes and all they listen to is Dolly Parton, Rod Steward and Elton John, my old man went through a period of just randomly signing Last Nite. They have no clue who Stormzy is though...

Surely everyone knows about her. It's been all over the news about her and Donald Trump :P

They were booked because Justin Timberlake sacked it off. And he’s well washed up.

Yeah that's why I said for Glasto to follow Coachella in giving them the 'bump up'.

The Strokes are a bit of a nonentity in 2019.

They’re a stale booking (although less so on their maiden Glasto visit) but not a non-entity by any stretch. We’re not talking about the Von Bondies headlining.

But didn’t you read - they’re apparently plotting their “Global Comeback” in 2019.

Tbf, I’m a bit surprised all the grief they’re getting on here. They seem every bit big enough to headline to me. What makes a band/artist big enough anyway? You only need one album and a few mil listeners.

Yeah im surprised they’re getting such a hard time. Maybe if macca and Gaga has already been announced people would feel different. Stormzy seems to be a weird first announcement.

Ive definitely read they’re making a big global comeback. Like you said, first time at Glastonbury and hopefully another decent new album and people will warm to the idea.

That's like one tier below being the DJ in TopShop.

I bet he's Connected though.

Because Glasto want Oasis but they won't reform, or offered to Liam based on his own credentials? And with Noel playing elsewhere on the line up too?

I just look at what this forum presumes are the most likely candidates at present in Stormzy,  The Cure and The Strokes and I think in a head to head with any of them, Liam would draw a bigger crowd.

The Noel situation is a strange one. It really does seem mad as hell having both of them on at the same festival. Lets be honest, what ever crowd they draw will predominantly be there for the Oasis tunes. It is difficult to place either of them.

I am not advocating Liam headlining, it is not something I would be interested in seeing myself. Yet it just seems a bit mad talking about the Strokes headlining and not Liam.

I'm not sure he would. There was a huge amount of buzz around his comeback in 2017 but he has been gigging pretty regularly since and I wonder if some of that buzz has worn off. He'd still get decent numbers, but I don't think he'd get massively different to the others if he headlined, sub feels right for him.

    • Monaco comes across to me as something that's great for just watching people driving around, especially this year as it feels like this is a track where they can actually push compared to other circuits where superclipping ruins it, but where the cars seem to have outgrown it.   Though tbf Formula E has had decent Monaco races recently so maybe its a sign of car development philosophy being a factor.
    • Feel like a lot of people do just sit around by the stage at a festival waiting for one act anyway, no? I know Swift has a big mega-fandom - she wouldn't have done so many Wembley shows last year if she didn't - but it's not like she'd be unique in playing a festival and drawing a crowd on that specific day just for her.   But then tbf I feel like there'd be a few happy just to mosy around the rest of the site until maybe 2/3 acts beforehand.
    • Pretty good imo. Though I'm aware my position of being a big fan means I'm biased.   Reminds me a little of Justice, which shouldn't be that much of a surprise given I've heard Justice played a lot in Muse's pre-show playlists over the years.
