It really is just random.

yep ... tho the title of this thread is likely to lead to the posts within it being slanted towards phones.

There's enough evidence around of people getting better luck on broadband to phones to make claims of phones being better invalid, at least from the anecdotal evidence available to us.

That's not saying phones cannot be better, only that there's no real evidence to show that they are.

For me it was White pages & the occasional holding page that would freeze or go white again after the 20 seconds (which didn't actually count down this time)

chrome never loaded a single page from about 8.55 - sell out. Not even the start page. Nothing

iPads and phones again wouldn't load anything, all with their own respective ips and not sharing the house wifi

I had more luck (got the refresh page) on my phone than my broadband - I only saw a white page on broadband - yet my missus got the refresh page on the same broadband.

And the mate who got my tickets got thru on broadband - twice - this year after not having got thru for years. He also got thru on his phone, tho only once.

It seems pretty random to me.

I'm inclined to think it's random as well. I was compelled to post because I wasn't even getting the holding screen on wifi connected devices, and had it consistently on mobile. In the past I've always had the holding page ticking along across all devices, and then one of them happens to get a booking screen first. I just found it odd that the pages were completely dead on my wifi.

But reading other posts on here does seem to suggest that this wasn't everyone's experience, and it is indeed random.

I didn't get anywhere near a holding page on laptop but got the holding page on my phone on 3g.

Couldn't get anywhere with it though, wouldn't refresh quick enough - shitty fucking 3g where I live.

Glad to hear Neil got 1 - that always makes me feel better knowing Neil is covered because of all of the work he puts into maintaining this place.

I have since had confirmation that as my pathetic group doesn't want to go without a campervan that this year will have been my last festival. I won't be going again after the fallow year as I reckon the ticket price will be sky high and I somehow doubt I will want to try for one single ticket in the resale and then go down on my own with no vehicle from London.

Thanks guys for the last few years on here, will probably post from time to time but I consider myself a retired Glastonbury veteran now thanks to my shitty family. Glad that quite a lot on here managed to get tickets. Shame I couldn't get on to efests during the sale or I may have found the host hack post and tried that. Thats workedbefore for me when Neil suggested it a few years ago.

I wouldn't totally write it off yet.  I managed to get tickets in the secret resale, and that included campervan tickets as well (they did go very fast mind)

I e since come to my senses and will try even for a single ticket for myself and just go alone if needs be.

Fuck my family - G is about MORE than having a fucking campervan to pitch the tent we will have to bring anyway with us!

I think the weight is that it is random. However, my personal experience this year, and amongst a number of others trying, was that a mobile carrier connection was more likely to get to the holding page at the very least. I know it should be random, but my spider sense is tingling....

I got booking page on 4g but nothing on PC and laptop.  Eventually I got a tab in Mozilla with the holding page but despite constant refreshes no hits.  Really stressful typing stuff into a phone browser though.  And as it turned out 5 of the 6 had already been bought by someone else who get 3 lots of tickets!  By the time I reentered it timed out - so I feel rather sorry for our 6th person who missed out.

I also hear anecdotal evidence from last year that phones worked well.  Question is - is it related to mobile network or the way mobile browsers work  Tethered laptop might be a good way to go as at least you don't get the stress of typing into a stupid little screen.

So in 2 years might try: PC, tethered laptop, 4g phone (but not the one running the tether).  Would seem to cover all the bases.

Problem we get with our Broadband could be that all devices have the same ip address - so maybe they are interfering with each other?  This definitely happens if you have multiple tabs on one browser.  Any experience here?

Do you think that the sheer volume of different connections that we are all applying to the issue is what is making it harder for ourselves?  4g was no better than cable here and my experience from our group was that there was no pattern nor advantage to be gained apart from having more people trying collectively.

Interesting theory from artl.  What I saw was that my phone hit this busy page within 5 minutes.  I think my PC browsers got nothing for around 20 mins.  Once the phone hit it, it certainly then did the auto refresh every 20 seconds which would suggest that you are at the "real" page or at least it has the same effect as being at the real page.

Absolutely nothing on my laptop or iPad using my wi-fi, switched to hosting 4G off my phone and iPad got through 3 times!

I really dont don't think it makes a difference, just interesting my iPad immediately loaded up the holding page when I switched to 4G.

Quite convinced it is random however both my son and I got through on phones on 4g and had no luck on laptops or iPad a lot of white screens, holding page occasionally.

Someone else had got his 2 x 6 groups for him (by phone) by the time he got the regs in and I was first to get our group. I got kicked out of payment page 4 times and had to go back and recomplete payment info 4 times...

ps actually found phone easier as used shortcuts instead of copy/paste

We had one tablet and one laptop on wifi, and one phone on 4G, none of which got any more than a holding page. I got through on my old iPhone 4 on 3G, put our details in, and was told they were already bought, seconds before I got a message from the friend who got them. Managed to swap details and get through for another efests group, all the while expecting it to say sold out at any moment, but got them bought. May the ticket gods bless my ancient piece of shit phone!

So after about 40 minutes of dead pages on laptop and ipad (see attached image), I got through on 4G on my phone, which had been refreshing consistently the entire time, with no crashed pages. Was there any advantage to using mobile data? I've always been firmly of the 'it's all random' persuasion, but if the holding page isn't even working on laptop/wifi...?

Screen Shot 2016-10-09 at 09.52.37.png

I tethered my iPhone on EE 4G to my MacBook, had 3 browsers open with a normal and private tab. Saw just the holding page for the first 25-30 minutes, then managed to get through on a reg page that hadn't fully loaded - details in and I was booted back to the holding page when I clicked next. Continued with pressing back and then clicking proceed but did not seem to be working. This happened a few times till eventually one of my browsers that was auto refreshing loaded properly and payment details went in.

Was with people who were using WiFi and they were getting the white screen of death for the majority of the time - not sure if this is a coincidence but I would recommend tethering to 3G/4G in the resale's. If you still need tickets, I'm happy to try for you

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
