Still convinced that Royal Blood won't sub

5 months out, there's no way Royal Blood will sub a main stage with a 3 year old album and, currently, no new album out or even a release date for one or a new single off it. XX have played it right - new album next week, 2 songs already out, sold out spring tour. That gives you momentum and a festival confidence to give you a high profile spot.

Late afternoon or teatime for Other/Pyramid or 3rd down in JP Tent at best. If it wasn't for no Glasto in 2018, I wouldn't even have them down to play this summer.

On this one Keithy,  you haven't got a fucking clue what you're on about

also re: The xx, do you think festivals have only booked them in high positions since they announced their album/released the single a month back?

much in the same way that Sheeran has released fuck all and is headlining, Royal Blood don't need new material out this early to be guaranteed a high festival position

Biffy will be 1! Still can't see any reason why they aren't an exclusive at Download if they aren't playing Glastonbury. (Not playing IOW or R&L)

I'd be more convinced if SOAD were exclusive like Aerosmith but they aren't. I do think it wouldoes help give them any push they may need, it wouldn't help Download sales mind being after it.

But Sheeran will have new material out by the time that is confirmed so that doesn't matter there.

What Keith is saying is bull though.

So in 2017, a single 3 year old album (that was toured to death) is enough for a high festival position?

Given last time RB played Glastonbury it was 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, I'm not sure what's changed 3 years on when the hype has died down and they still have the same album?

XX would automatically be getting a high spot with new stuff given they've already headlined + 2 successful albums. Ditto for Ed - 2 huge albums and has been moving up the order when he plays.

If RB don't sub then the next slot on Other/Pyramid is the late afternoon / teatime slot of 6pm. Maybe 3rd on JP is a bit harsh and they could sub there but If RB don't sub then the next slot on Other/Pyramid is the late afternoon / teatime slot of 6pm. I'm not sure what's to ludicrous or bull about that?!

They hadn't even released their album when they played before yet pulled a huge crowd. Sure, the hype has died down now but that happens to every band who haven't released anything or toured in the last year, as soon as they put out a new single the hype will naturally pick up again. I'm leaning more towards 3rd down rather than subbing now but anything else just seems ridiculous.

they were booked for and played that slot at Glastonbury before they'd even released their album and they absolutely packed it out. they went on to play third down at Reading/Leeds a year later based on the huge success of the album (Gazza will argue they only got that slot as they were an exclusive - i don't think it matters at all). if they've released a new album by the time festival season rolls 'round (which they of course will - they've got six months to do it) then they will undoubtedly be getting much bigger slots than you're saying. third down Pyramid at least, but i personally still think they'll sub

To be fair, they did support Arctic Monkey's twice in the May, were massive coming out of SXSW in March and were getting a ton of airplay for the EP. I'd already seen them twice before Glastonbury so wasn't surprised the crowd was spilling out of the JP tent as the hype was insane. I'm sure we will have a new album out given the teaser video they released but I'd have liked to had a track out by now as a taster for what the 'difficult second' album will be like. I guess there's still time for a single in Feb, 2nd single early April and album in May, the hype to build back up again and a triumphant sub on the Pyramid.

Though as much as a like RB, part of me thinks we'll look back in 7/8 years and wonder how the hell RB subbed the pyramid!

I suppose it's all a moot point if IoW or Reading come out with RB as an exclusive and headliner.

If there was a Glasto in 2018 then that's what I think would happen; 2017 - Reading, 2018 - Glasto. However I guess RB won't want to get themselves tied down to an exclusive this year that means they don't play Glastonbury for 2 years.

I think Bonobo is getting too big now to do much else. Could still squeeze into a John Peel headliner slot but the direction his music is going in could probably work quite well on big outdoor stages.

Boot out Sandé and move up Metronomy and Bonobo. Jobs a good 'un. Also removes that clash with Barry Gibb I hadn't noticed before.

I don't care if they're not "big enough".

Nah they wouldn't clash. Pyramid acts get longer sets and bigger changeover times so you could boogie round to the Other Stage after Gibbo.

Some things I'd argue are a bit too low and there are a few unnecessary repeats of last year but it's looking good - would be happy enough.

On seeing the Goat shouts I just remembered that I read on the King Gizz sub that according to a few diff peeps Goat are meant to be splitting after this tour finishes. Hope they've had a change of heart.

Switch The Prodigy to Friday as there is a high chance Wireless do have an exclusive deal over The Weeknd. That would do me.

I'd be very happy with this. Definitely want Hercule & Love Affair and Iggy Pop on the lineup now. I won't settle for anything else.

Also doubt Kurt Vile will be back on The Park stage, but stranger things have happened I guess.

No there isn't. It's been mooted as a possibility but given they seldom do exclusives and the other headliner at the German event is Bieber - who's not even playing the UK one - it's not definite.

Surely Elbow will pop up somewhere? New album out soon n all that.

I'd put a large chunk of money on the Sunday Evening sunset slot on the Pyramid Stage...

Edit: just noticed you've put them in on the same slot but on the other stage, surely there is a better chance of them being on the pyramid?
