James Blake

Have to say, upon listening to his new album, I'm very excited to see James Blake. Can't remember if it was last year or the one before, but his performance at the Park stage was one of my all time favourite Glastonbury performances  (Viewed online I may add :P).  Definitely be a much needed chill out and enjoy the music as opposed to the dancing/moshing I'll no doubt be doing across the weekend!

Only behind LCD Soundsystem in my top acts to see so far, if they clash I think I'll be an emotional wreck!

think you're safe on the clash front - James Blake looks to be headlining West Holts on the Saturday and LCD Soundsystem... well, could play many places, but at that time isn't one of them :P

With LCDs slot so up in the air I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch!:D

Yeah I find the likely clash with New Order a bit of an annoyance, would like to see them too but I've found myself listening to James Blake more so he'd be a certainty over them.

I've always really struggled to 'get' James Blake even though, on paper, he should be right up my street. However, I am enjoying the new record quite a lot, and I know that he's a pretty excellent musician.

So, I've decided to give him some serious time, as I could easily see myself at WH on the Saturday. New Order doesn't interest me, and Adele, well I needn't even go there. So, I'll see what the Park and some of the smaller stages throw up - I could see myself watching Turin Brakes in Avalon.

My current Saturday worry is if Floating Points are on WH and sub James Blake. It'd be a great slot for him/them, but there's the spectre (I thank you...) of Radiohead subbing Pyramid. Crazy though it might seem, I'm pretty sure I'd go for FloPo in that event...partly because they're a must see for me, partly as I always like to buck the trend, and also because I'm seeing Radiohead three weeks from tonight!

:)

Was one of my highlights when he played John Peel in 2014. Basslines were making my eyeballs vibrate, loved it.

Most remarkable thing for me was that probably the best rection of the set was for a previously unheard 1-800 dinosaur techno tune.

just listening to him now on Gilles Peterson's show.. good but i can't really imagine wanting to listen to it for a Saturday night headliner.

And the more I listen to the new record (and I have Overgrown on now as well...), the more I can really imagine myself at WH on Saturday night, whilst Uncle Tom Cobbley and all are in tears and waving their lighters/phones at the Pyramid!

I just hope they now don't throw me the EITS Saturday Park headliner curveball!

Although FloPo and then a sprint to the Park seems like my kinda thing!

Ben

Edit: apologies for shameless self-quoting

    • Tell me more. Last Latitude we went to was '21 - my son was young & had a wagon so we snuck good beers in that way. I remember there being some Brooklyn IPA on sale which was tolerable - are you saying they don't sell anything other than Carlsberg now?! 😳
    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
