Goodness I read some of this earlier and thought I'll have a think, came back to it, read some more and still struggling to pin down 3.

1) when doves cry

2) thieves in the temple

3) purple rain/get off

Also have a soft spot for the duet with madonna love song - just a time in my life thing.

Can't quite believe he's gone still. I'm not alone in thinking that Prince was very poor at self moderation. Most of the early albums contained dud tracks and the later albums contained mostly duds, howlers some of them. But the output was so prolific and the diamonds were such diamonds we can all surely forgive him for that. and that said, everyone will have three different choices in this thread, one man's dud is another's diamond. For Me:-

Sign of the times

Money Don't Matter 2 Night

(and most especially) If I was your girlfriend...

My favorite quote about Prince this week was from Eric Clapton.

When asked what it felt like to be the worlds greatest guitarist, he said *I don't know, ask Prince"

People really need to stop taking twitter posts as gospel.

Was actually said by Hendrix about Rory Gallagher.

OK. I'm not on Twitter, Fucking Guardian. Standards have slipped. Not sure who you can trust for accurate information anymore?

I'm well mugged off for quoting that now.

Raspberry Beret really is a perfect pop tune.

Catchy, great story telling lyrics and you instsntly know what it is.

Had it on repeat a few times earlier.

I knew I loved it, but forgot how much.

Or Hendrix said it about Phil Keaggy. Or, more likely, he didn't say it about anyone. Some discussion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ARory_Gallagher#The_Hendrix_quote

Anyway, from where I'm sitting, Prince is right up there as one of the great guitarists.

    • Sun's out today. Can feel the hills calling. Time to ramp up the energy levels. I've been easing my way in gently the last 2 weeks with the likes of Hayley and Lael Neale and Cut Worms and Maria Somerville etc. Time to unleash some Shame, Mogwai, Place to Bury Strangers and especially Wednesday and Mannequin Pussy.  Also, just back from a brilliant night in Belfast at the Fleadh Ceoil so anything with a fiddle or a whistle or a squeeze box is drawing me like the Sirens. Madra Salach with the volume up. COME ON!!
    • My Orange car park ticket turned up today. The envelope looked like some kind of junk mail offering me a loan so I nearly didn't open it!
    • There is a bunch of TBC acts on Deftones day, according to APE insta. The obvious guesses are Fiddlehead, Nothing, Dynamite and Make Way, "Outbreak" artists playing the night before. The question is more about how are they are gonna fit in on three big stages.    is
    • SURELY Reel Big Fish will be here?
    • Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter is a very bland set of headliners. Commercially successful and makes plenty of sense, but it wouldn't be very inspirising. That said I want a band like Green Day to headline so who am I to say what exciting is.
