Your Not talking nonsense - processing cards can be a right pain in the arse even in Central London - I would say the last time the WBC were at Hyde Park only about 55% went though - Each bar at Glastonbury will be tested hence why some will take them and some will not.

what should be a simple process can take ages when your in a field with thousands of people all using their mobiles.

Contactless doesn't necessarily authorize at point of sale though - it can process the transaction as 'offline' then put the authorisations through after, when it has a connection. And yes, that does cause security issues, but it's how the entire London transport network works for a start.

I'd imagine that's where the really fast transactions at other events have come from.

I'm really glad to see this topic and your list, after doing the monopoly pub crawl a couple if times I wanted to see how feasible a Glastonbury one would be. Did quite a bit of research and found that they have to produce a plan of where are the alcohol points are (red or blue outline plan or something along those lines) for the license each year but I couldn't find a copy of the plan available online anywhere so had given up on the idea, I've now made a list of all the ones discussed on this topic and its very manageable. I will make sure to update it as I go along in June with the many more that are there. Cheers, and if anyone can provide a complete list of the licensed points I would be eternally grateful :)

You're right regarding the offline stuff to a point however this won't happen, the reason is it makes the merchants (bars / festival) liable for chargebacks and potentially a massive bill.

Not worth the risk

its called the DPS map and this is a huge paper map and I have never seen this made public - last one I saw had a listing of 90 odd bars and even still there was some that never made the list.

Well that depends how much faster you can serve people. You will lose money on fraudulent transactions but the risk calculation is if you can make more than you lose by selling quicker.

Maybe they could adopt the V fest approach and everyone buys tokens from dedicated areas. When you go to the bar to get a beverage it's 1 token 1 drink. The initial queue for tokens is a ball ache but The queues for drinks go very quickly and no faffing around with cards.

of course, but i think everything i have noted is included in the O'Doyles Rules list but i will double check and also look through some other threads.

I imagine lists about beer would be your absolute favorite by a mile:)
