Radiohead touring in 2016

Muse are bigger across the country, that's without doubt. But arguably among the demographic that goes to Glastonbury Radiohead are a considerably bigger deal, even considering the change in crowd over the last 10 years.

I think to people who actively listen to music Radiohead are a far bigger deal but most people are passive listeners who have music on in the background so Adele and Coldplay are more popular in that respect.

It's an oddly cohesive album for one formed from a grab bag of songs originating across the years.  They've also scaled back some of their more annoying 'terrible beats' tendencies.  It's a pleasant surprise.

There is no doubt there is always a big hype about them when it comes to releasing stuff, and they do have a strong fanbase. I just think Muse are still more familiar and appealing to bigger number of people today. The thing with a Radiohead headline set is, I don't think they would feel the need to tailor their set much to suit the slot. I could imagine they would play a lot of the new album, as well as a lot of less mainstream stuff.

They aren't a band who are gonna play a set full of songs that the average person will go 'oh I know this one'. The stuff off The Bends and OK Computer would go down well with more people, but would they play much of it? I don't think the band would care about headlining either, I think a sub slot would be fine with them.

really good album, listened to it on the way in to work today for the first time. Was with the gf all last night and she doesn't like Radiohead!

Nice surprise, wasn't expecting something like this based on Burn the Witch and Daydreaming. BTW sounds so out of place when listened to as part of the album. Can't wait to see them live now and see what they play.

As a not-much-of-a-Radiohead-fan, I've given this a listen. Thought you'd be interested in impressions from someone with no hype.

1. Burn the Witch - Wasn't that bothered when I listened when it released, but it's grown on me. So much better through headphones.
2. Daydreaming - Don't like it. Dull.
3. Decks Dark - Good. Feels like it has the potential to grow on me.
4. Desert Island Disk - Fine.
5. Ful Stop - Really, really liking this actually. Best of the album so far.
6. Glass Eyes - Of the slower, more mellow songs so far,  I feel this one is standing out. Loving the piano and strings.
7. Identikit - Enjoy how this track develops. Wasn't liking Thom's vocals in the first half. The big crescendo is killer. Thumbs up.
8. The Numbers - In principle, I like this. I just want it go get going a bit quicker. Strings are phenomenal when they kick in.
9. Present Tense - Getting a latin feel from the guitar. The whinier vocals always grate on me, but could grow on me.
10. Tinker Tailor... - Not really feeling it. Takes too long to get anywhere. Feels like a combination between filler/a mellow ender.
11. True Love Waits - Don't like it. Dull.

Overall, I thought it was good. Never going to be my favourite thing of all time but there's definitely a few tracks there I'll come back to. Will give the whole thing a couple more listens over the next few days, but it's actually made me want to give OK Computer and In Rainbows a real go again through the headphones to see if I can get into them properly.

I agree. It seems like weird half rhyme to me and I don't really see the context of the title unless I missed out on some lyrics in the songs which would explain the title. Does anyone know why they chose it and what it means?

it was only my 2nd listen but i'm already warming to this version of True Love Waits, I think a few more goes and i'll be won over

This is a tremendous album.

Listened to it last night on my half-decent audio setup and brought a copy into work to listen through earphones. Will be interesting to see what extra things I can pick up on. It's amazing how much work has gone into this thing.

Early favourites are Identikit, Decks Dark and True Love Waits. I can't seem to find anything to like about Tinker Tailor though.

Yeah Decks Dark has been my standout so far although I'm only 4 songs deep...

The majority of Radiohead's albums have taken a fair few listens for me to fully enjoy but 'A Moon Shaped Pool' has grabbed me instantly, it's absolutely outstanding. 'Ful Stop', 'The Numbers' and 'True Love Waits' are my current standouts but every track is awesome!

Really looking forward to seeing it played over the next few months. I'm going to keep an eye out for any spare Roundhouse tickets as I feel those shows will get more of the new album than NOS or any potential Glastonbury set.

That bit where it goes into a synthy overdrive is amazing. Put a proper smile on my face when I first heard it on 6Music.

It sounds to me like they were trying to keep the parts fairly simple on this album (though the overall arrangements are obviously not simple) and I like it. Makes it a bit more approachable.

yeah, although there are obvious bits of Radiohead weirdness on there, it's nice to have an album that was seemingly made to be approachable from the get-go, unlike TKOL which was clearly made to be appreciated in a live environment. i mean, they haven't done a song like Desert Island Disk in what seems like forever, and i didn't ever expect them to again. it's stuff like that which are the biggest surprises
