Radiohead touring in 2016

No one has any idea whether Glastonbury tried to book them or not, they might still be playing.

Sort of torn between "this is an amazing album and everyone would've been blown away by a Pyramid headline set this year" and "this is too deep for the fans of Creep".

Argh. The point still stands - speculatively pinning Glasto against the wall for not booking Radiohead to headline is pointless. For all we know they wanted them to do so and RH declined, or they have agreed to next year. 

Don't know where I stand on the new one. Ended up watching that Hillsborough doc whilst listening to it for the first time. Had my headphones on but was just watching all the images from the disaster, it was weird. I'll give it another try with my full attention in the morn.

Yeah that's fair. I get the feeling that the headliners were already at least provisionally sorted before Radiohead knew they were doing stuff this summer so maybe they're just at fault for settling for Muse so early on.  A Sunday night headline slot next year to wave us off for a year (or more) would be baller.

I might be wrong, but didn't Emily say that they have already booked the headliners/lineup for 2017? This would have also been arranged before Radiohead knew what they were doing in Summer.

I agree. They must have jumped the gun with Muse, it's the only explanation for their booking. Unforgivable from Glasto-HQ.

I'm still confident in a 2017 headline set. I don't buy that they'd play fests all over Europe and the U.S but not in the UK on this album cycle, so I reckon it's a fair shout for next year. I'm getting pretty confident in it as an idea, to the point where I hope they aren't on the next poster, and I hope there isn't a TBC towards the top of the Pyramid.

Isn't this just something they like to say? Maybe to encourage ticket buyers? I remember seeing a quote from Emily or Michael after the 2011 festival saying they'd already booked the 2013 and 2014 headliners.

There's no point trying to read anything into that statement either way. Anything "booked" 2 years in advance won't be a firm confirmation, and it's fairly common for those kind of plans to change for one reason or another. Otherwise we'd have had a festival a couple years ago headlineed by Elbow, Depeche Mode, and Fleetwood Mac.

The 2016 Festival is the first one in a while where things have been so certain for so long.

I'm quite confident that they'll play this year, and I've got a funny feeling that Neil knows more than he's letting off in here but possibly can't say any more for whatever reason, there was just something about his posts in this thread last week that made me think that. I feel that they were more than likely pencilled in to replace Adele if she dropped out, but they would play anyway if she didn't. I can't imagine it being a secret set either - after the excellent reception to this album, I just can't imagine they'd not announce them. I can't see it being anywhere else than on the pyramid, before her I guess. But who knows, maybe it's just wishful thinking.

No matter how big Adele and Coldplay is, I don't think when they release their album it create this much buzz.

I know, it's heartbreaking, but if they do play and it's on the pyramid then I certainly won't be complaining. I'm not a fan of any of the headliners, but if Radiohead were playing on there too then I think that'd be a seriously strong set of bookings (aside from the fact that most have played several times). 

But yeah, who knows. Michael saying they aren't playing makes me think secret set, or he was just throwing people off, I doubt he'd have said yes there and then even if they are playing and it's not secret, they'd want to announce it properly. And another thing that gives me doubts is them wanting to play in the dark in Iceland.

Maybe not among the demographic of this forum, but in the wider public consciousness? No way. Well. Maybe par with coldplay and a head full of shite. But the buzz around 25 was tenfold compared to the buzz around AMSP. Couldn't bloody escape the Adele buzz. As much as we are all in absolute dreamland right now, vast amounts of people will be like "meh" or "who? Oh, the guys who do that creep song?".

No matter how good the new album might or might not be, some people let their love of Radiohead make them a bit too misty eyed when thinking about them and how important they are in 2016 to the masses. They have a strong fanbase yes, but they certainly aren't bigger news than an Adele album.

The three headliners are bigger artists than Radiohead today. I have no interest in seeing any of them headliners, but its true. I think they're a good shout for Pyramid subs. I certainly don't see them headlining in 2017 at the end of an album cycle (if they're even still touring).

My two cents;

It's very good. Daydreaming is a staggeringly beautiful song. Was disappointed to see Silent Spring left off, until I heard The Numbers 

I like Burn The Witch, but seems a bit out of place with the rest of the album.

Sounds like nothing they've done before - like the folk-y sound of some of the songs. Some of the piano reminds me of Nick Drake.

I'll agree immediately that Adele is a bigger act. You might even be able to convince me about Superbowl playing Coldplay, but Muse? I don't buy it.

Radiohead seem so good and subtle and downright weird, that they can't possibly be a massive act can they? Well, somehow they are. A genuine cultural phenomenon. I dunno maybe last week you might think Muse weelre the bigger deal, but not by the end of this week.

I think I might be a bit emotional caused by the album playing in my ears!

I think muse have lost there way and stock has sharply decreased. The last 2 albums have not been reviewed well espiclly drones. Add to the fact that you could pick up tickets quite easily on secondary sale markets for less then half price before the gig. 

I actually like muse and was at the tour and as a fan I was underwhelmed 

The hype for radiohead is vastly different then when dromes was released.
