Finally finished it all, had some cereal and a cuppa, and here are my thoughts:

It's a phenomenal record. Quite how phenomenal I'm not sure. Obviously it needs hundreds more listens. It's instantly in their top 4 albums though.

My instant reaction is that it's the most mature and emotional album they have released yet. It's so dense and almost suffocating in places. There's so much going on that it's hard to wrap your head around it.

I don't think I've ever felt anything quite as extraordinary listening to a record as I did during True Love Waits.

Yup, yup yup yup :D

As a quick aside I would now be more than happy with them playing this start to finish at Glastonbury.

I've just finished my 3rd listen, it's overwhelming with so much to each song. I honestly think Radiohead have just recorded a masterpiece.

The strings, the beats, the hauntingly beautiful sounds.

Im in love with it, the numbers becomes more perfect every time I listen to it.

its not an album where you can instantly review it though, it's something that you need to digest properly

depends on what they play live really. for The Roundhouse i can see them having a string section and doing a lot of the album. for festivals, I could see them only playing a few that don't rely on strings so much (eg. Ful Stop, Identikit, Present Tense), and a mix of previous stuff.

I think they will take the orchestra everywhere. If LSP and Elbow can afford to tour with an orchestra, surely Radiohead can.

Anyone got a link to where I can listen to the radio show on Iplayer again?

Be warned - it cuts off before the end of True Love Waits.

I'm thinking the fucking awesomeness of this album could explain their Glastonbury situation. As in - played in full, on the Pyramid before Adele.

With an orchestra.

Radiohead playing before Adele on the Pyramid would be a weird one already without them trotting out their month old album in full for the set, although the thought of some of these songs on the Pyramid... if not this year, it just has to happen next year. as great as their 2003 set apparently was, HTTT wasn't the best album to headline off the back of. this one seems like it really would be + the In Rainbows material that's never been performed up there

Looks like the album clocks in at around 75 minute, throw in a quick encore of three crowd pleasing classics and you've got yourself a 90 minute set.

This is fucking marvelous. I really think I'm listening to a bonafide classic in the making here.

Please please please please please please do Glastonbury. I'd even be perfectly ok with them just playing this album in full and leaving it at that (not something I'd expect I would be saying when I woke up this morning).

Cannot believe they have recorded 'True Love Waits' - I listened to that live recording of it from 1995 about 20 billion times back in the day.

Yep. So has everyone else, so I don't understand why they've tacked it on. I don't really think it adds anything.

edit: stronger chance of live outings though. That's cool.

Because it's going to be their last album?

guess it was a song that nobody thought they'd ever record a studio version of, and for better or for worse, people's reactions to it being there (and closing the album nonetheless) are pretty insane. i myself never bothered with the live version as much as others seem to have so it being on the album is fantastic for me as i finally get to listen to it properly, and it's nice that they finally found an arrangement of the song that they were happy to record. i guess Thom's breakup made it even more poignant at this time

That was mindless speculation by the way.

I've seen that suggested a few places, given the 'final versions' of many of their older unreleased tracks on the album, specifically TLW.

Probably just speculation, but I do wonder about the backwards stuff at the end of Daydreaming that we thought referred to his divorce, maybe it actually referred to the band?

FUCKING WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING FFFFFUCK?

So I've sat here after fucking about trying to download the album for ages...like fucking AGES...pissing about with payment details, passwords and shit...(I sound like Guy now old sons)...finally sort it it...listen to it...in full, 3 times:

Oooo, lovely strings and shit...vocals very much in the background...hushed...cripes...more strings, well done Johnny, etc:

'Ah. So their new thing is it's all instrumental...no Thom singing...'

THIS ISN'T CLEVER! IT'S SHIT! FUCKING SHIT!

Nope. Hang on Woffy. It ALWAYS takes you a while to 'get' every new RH album. You've blathered on about this on efests enough...don't mouth off yet.

Nope. Fuck this! No singing!???!!!! Fuck this.

FUCK THIS ACTUAL SHIT SHIT!

*strops off for a bit, much sulking....................must try again*

Tries again.

Hasn't downloaded properly.

Can suddenly now hear Thom. All fucking over everything.

It's beautiful. Isn't it?!

*sighs contentedly*

Christallfuckingthankfuckforthatmighty.

Carry on. X

Yeah I never really bothered with the TLW live version either. I hardly ever dive into bands b sides/live songs so it's great that it's on the album

Really enjoy the album, after 4 listens I can't remember anything about Tinker... I'm going to say that's the weak link then
