2007 Hitchin Hill, camped next to a bloke who sang the 'Finland' song from Monty Python ALL FUDGING WEEKEND!
2013 Hitchin Hill, youngsters from hell camped next door, they argued amongst themselves almost all weekend and then left the place in an absolute tip,

I'm sure I'm a nightmare to camp with s well, I'm middle-aged, over-weight and like my beer, so I'm pretty sure I can snore as a professional pastime. Again, in 2007 after a particularly heavy night one of our neighbours mentioned that she thought her husband was a bad snorer until she heard me. so partly I like to think that I gave the bloke a bit of a reprieve over the weekend :-) But, I don't want my neighbours to suffer, especially as there's not really anything I can do about it other than stop smoking, lose weight and not drink (f### that, what's next??? exercise???). So now i always bring extra earplugs for my neighbours :-)

On the whole though we make a concerted effort to say hello to our neighbours especially when we're setting up camp. We'll help them put their tents up and share a few first drinks with them etc... This usually sets a good tone for the rest of the weekend.

Actually, thinking about it, we've not really had that many problems... Which sort of reminds me of that old phrase "There's always a mad nutter in any group of friends, and if you don't have one then it's probably you"... then there's a very high probability we could be the nightmare neighbours :-)

On the subject of snoring - I use one of these every night.

And it works....

My wife is an incredibly light sleeper and sleeps fine when I use it.

Sometimes, however, after drinking for extended periods - I forget to use it when I go to sleep.....so although I will be taking this to Glasto - I apologise in advance for forgetting!!!

I was sharing a room on holiday the other month and used one of these, anti snoring throat spray, nasal strips and a decongestion spray and apparently still kept my roommate awake. So I apologise in advance to my neighbours.

The people near us kept singing two lines from an R Kelly song. Just two lines, over and over and over...

In case you're interested:

My minds telling me no, but my body, my body's telling me yeeeEEEeeeEeeeesss

Was this last year? And by John Peel? If so, my apologies ;)

I've never had anyone really annoying near me, but the last time I went the people around me were so anti-social. I tried to create small talk but they were having none of it. Personally I find that more annoying than people being rowdy.

Very true, rather have loud friendly neighbours than quiet snarky ones.

Had a massive group of 20-odd Geordies behind us last year, at least 4 of which would be drinking in their gazebo bit at any one time - mid afternoon, breakfast, 4am, whenever - which was cool for security, but jeez I can't understand that accent at the best of times: it's incomprehensible in the middle of the night when I'm dying for a piss. I understood about one word in three, and I had a beer with em a couple of times. I used the classic tactic of smiling and laughing.

Friendly lot though, I was very happy to have em as neighbours!

Oops, this sounds like my crew! Were you down from LuLu's cafe, up from Beat Hotel near the tree? If so I'll speak slower next time as we all tend to gravitate to the same spot!! :sarcastic:

My first ever Glastonbury in 2009, our coach arrived onsite 6 hours late at about midnight on the Wednesday. My friends and I struggled in the dark to pitch our tent and somehow managed to find a space in what I think was probably Pennard Hill. We were woken up at 5am by our incredibly drunk neighbours playing 'Fire' by Kasabian at top volume, on repeat, on a portable CD player. It turned out we'd camped where they wanted to put their gazebo. They threatened to kick our tent down and swore at us so much that my friend and I, in our sleep-deprived state, ended up sobbing in our tent. In the end we promised to move later in the morning and they fucked off elsewhere. As penance, and as a parting gift to the rest of the campsite, we broke their CD and then replaced it in the CD player. We moved to Dairy Ground and had a lovely time the rest of the festival.

You should have shit in their CD player, far more effective I reckon :)

What a horrible initial experience. Happy to hear that the rest of the festival was lovely though. I'm not normally one for acts of vandalism but kind of reckon you were justified in breaking their cd in this instance - you'll have saved those around them hearing Fire being played repeatedly over the course of the festival.

That is really bad (their shittiness, not your actions), I'd be reporting them to the local coppers, that sort of behaviour should stay at the Leeds/Reading festival, not Glastonbury.

Not sure the snobbery is really required?

I have encountered this kind of thing a few times at Glastonbury, strangely enough the only festival I've encountered it at. While they are complete dicks you are best off moving, the negative atmosphere at the campsite otherwise can be a real downer especially if your worried about them fucking with your tent. Good work on smashing the CD though, tbf I would have smashed the CD player itself....

ok, fair point, sorry. I've only encountered this generally in Leeds though, never elsewhere.

  • 7 months later...

Monday morning (around 6am) I had someone camped next to me who'd shout, 'MORNING' to passers by with the most piercing voice ever. People walking past loved it, but as I was beginning to have what was the comedown to end all comedowns, it grated me from the inside and I'm sure no one else around was loving it. We're all meant to be miserable on the Monday morning, it wasn't on.
