I'm posting this in both the NFR NFC thread and the Weather thread, in the hope we can avoid the silliness (bordering on nastiness) we ended up with last year. There was some banter last year between the two threads, which is fine, but it ended up getting unpleasant, which is pointless and unnecessary. Those who post on the NFR NFC thread do so because they enjoy it and have made friends. New posters are always made welcome, as long as they are there to be friendly and not to start an argument. Likewise, posters on the Weather thread have a shared interest, and discuss it. Can we please please leave it at that, and enjoy the last few weeks of building excitement before the festival, rather than descending into petty squabbles like we did last year?

I hope everyone on both threads has a fantastic festival, with fantastic weather (whether you follow forecasts or weather gods!)

It does seem worryingly positive at the moment. It doesn't feel like it's the usual rollercoaster.

I was thinking the same earlier tonight whilst strolling round a very sunny field with the dog - I'm usually very cautiously pessimistic at this stage of proceedings, but this year I'm feeling pretty confident that it's going to be a vintage year for weather.

On the Tuesday of the festival a few places were reporting it. But I've yet to see a complete festival spanning forecast thats been accurate before the gates have opened.

In short, we're fucked.

Ace post. Made my laugh out loud on the train. The man is a GOD.

A very very miserable God - but a God nonetheless.

Errm .... So ... I'm not the superstitious type, but has anyone mentioned what happened last time the Who and the Chemical Brothers headlined on the Sunday night.

It was cold and rainy. The Nal is right - we're definitely stuffed.

On Wednesday, the Met Office were forecasting thunder storms for last night. Needless to say, there's been no rain or thunder at all. I have more faith in my Auntie Fanny's seaweed (which incidently is dry at present which means there's an occluded front wrapped around the Azores Finger or something like that ......)

Yeah, essential reading this time of year and I would hope that people appreciate that we should accommodate the light hearted posts, serious data, debate and speculation alike. No point anyone getting sniffy about what other people post.

A post from the folks over on the netweather forum to start the day:

Latest EC32 update.

Firstly it has the upper trough feeding down from the pole and slack LP over France next weekend.bringing slightly lower than average temps.

But it is quite transitory as low pressure over the Pole eases and and the Azores ridge builds slowly from the SW and warmer air arrives with temps slightly above normal by the 24th.

This ridging never becomes dominant and with the HP centred to the SW and low pressure over Greenland a slack zonal flow ensues mainly from the W/SW with temps around average more or less to the end of the run to the 6th July.

Summary

Apart from next weekend a fairly pleasant outlook with perhaps some warm weather in the third week of June

Ah, looked pretty grim my way when the sun came up, but it's looking grand now. Was a nice warm nice when the cloud had descended as well, many would take that as an ideal night for the festival.

Really felt like a Glastonbury morning today on the way to work. The smell in the air and the look of the clouds just reminded me of so many happy days at Worthy Farm :) Was beautifully sunny and warm when I left the house in Bristol at 8, but had clouded over and looking like it's going to rain by the time I reached Bath...

I'm in Bath too. Hoping the sun comes out by 12 so I can go sit in Queen Square in the sunshine and listen to some music!

It really felt like Glastonbury when I woke up this morning too - Thunderstorms and absolutely lashing it down!

Soon cleared up though!

Nice tolerance, Magma. I sure hope we meet up at Glastonbury. Just the sort of spirit that I was hoping to encounter, for my first visit to the farm.

Ben

Aww, I'm sowwy benny.

You carry on over in that thread, I'm not judging or saying you shouldn't - it's not like I'm asking someone to close it or even posting complaints inside the thread, I'm just saying from the safety of a more 'weathery' thread that it's not what I was looking for/expected when I went in for the first time in a couple of years - I've purposefully kept myself to this thread rather than sullying the off-topic happiness inside the NFR/NFC thread with my weather paranoia... I'm just saying I'd like to be part of a weather thread that's actually about, you know, weather - I haven't really got time to keep up with a 1000 page thread that hasn't got a lot of weather talk in it. It's great for those inside, I'm sure.

Forums like this are big enough for many different approaches to conversation, just like Glastonbury is big enough for many different approaches to festival fun. Do it your way, don't worry about me! :curtsey:

ANYWAY - WEATHER

Walked through a thunderstorm on my way to work this morning - sitting in my wet clothes watching the blazing sun come out through the window. Must be Glastonbury season!

Aha! So you ARE a True Believer then! None but a True Believer would sacrifice themselves to the Weather Gods in such a dramatic and selfless way. All Praise the Weather Gods!

PS NFR NFC, obvs

Oh, I'm certainly Weather God friendly. I obviously missed whatever weather-set-to happened last year creating the weather-schism... I thought we were all still worshipping under the same leaky weather-spire. I feel like I've turned up to a post-reformation church holding a golden statue of Christ.

My time-honoured way to appease the Weather Gods is to plan for 2007, pray for 2010, avoid the merest suggestion that a light shower can have a positive impact and spend at least a good three weeks feigning a good and proper understanding of meteorological pressure forecasts before admitting on the Tuesday night that I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen and prostrating myself at the mercy of the micro-climate.

    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
    • Will that work for arenas with seats? People will have their tickets on their phones and needs to find their seat.
    • Excellent new release from overpass today - well worth checking out.
    • Having lived here for 2 and a half years now my take is that security, safety and organisation are just not a priority in Spain. It's not even exclusive to festivals. It's a part of everything.   Simple example. I'm Irish and in Ireland if you assemble a construction site you have to adhere to a lot of regulations about cordoning off the site so nobody can enter and get injured. Here, you're walking down the foot path and suddenly without any warning you're in a construction site. If not, you'll suddenly find yourself directed onto the road to get around the construction.   Life is more laid back here in general. Pros and cons.
