i don't think they're JUST going for Prince now - they've probably been pursuing him for ages and he's still in talks. it would certainly add up with Neil's Flo could step up theory if he decides to not do it in the end (although that would be a truly tragic result). much like how Rolling Stones apparently only signed up the day before the lineup was announced, except moreso because Prince is an awkward shit

I know they've been after him every year since .. Forever .. But what I meant was why are discussion still ongoing?

I mean, they must have approached him the day after last years festival ended. If he'd have shown signs of willing I'm sure the discussions would have started right away - knowing they could take some time.

What I assume must have happened is that they had somebody lined up and then Prince popped up within the last few months and said ... "Oh me again .. I'll play now!" and threw the whole situation a different angle.

You've got to consider why Florence would take a sub slot over headlining other big festivals such as Reading, Bestival, Latitude etc.

Maybe being told that you could sub a legend such as David Bowie would tempt her and if such a deal falls through she WILL headline.

No idea if she'd have been dropped a name though considering the secrecy of this year but can see why subbing Bowie has more appeal over headlining other festivals.

Yeah I thought that. I kind of assume that they often have these agreements where an act is approached to play and will be moved up to headline if the likely circumstances of Prince or previously The Rolling Stones, etc. can't be agreed upon so that's probably the only way they can get away with having her playing and it not affecting slots at other festivals.

GFL office this morning - 'We anticipate they'll be nothing revealed in the next 24 hours'. Mate emailed them.

Nothing revealed?

I think the third headliner will be fully booked and immediately announced a few days after balance payments to reward those who brought their tickets.

A big name perhaps... Prince or Bowie :yahoo:

Still think Macca's in with a shout too.

Are tags such as 'European exclusive' always definite? Pretty sure Metallica were supposedly exclusives last year to Sonisphere before Glasto booked them.

Europe might not even include the UK (for festival bookings)?

Much as I would die a happy man if it was Bowie, I can't see it happening. It's just too unlikely that the Thin White one would return to the live fray in front of a global audience at somewhere like Glastonbury. An unannounced set at a small club is more likely, frankly.

But then...from the dept of clutching at straws...how about this: Tony Visconti and Woody Woodmansey are touring their Bowie-based The Man Who Sold The World show ('With special guests") throughout the UK in June. And there's a Glastonbury-shaped hole in their itinerary.

Add to that the latest tweet on Visconti's timeline, which mentions kicking off their tour at IOW and maybe...just maybe...it explains Giddings's remark that you can't get one over on Glastonbury -- because having booked Visconti and Woodmansey, he's been told that they're reuniting with Bowie at Glastonbury.

It's as good a theory as any I've read on here...

hahaha, if I get myself all excited about Prince and then it turns out to be Macca. Ah man, i don't even want to think about how painful that would be.

Macca, to do the same set again?! Would be bizarre.

But not as bizarre as Bowie.

Manager: "David, do you fancy playing live again? Considering you're a 68 year old man with a heart condition who hasn't played live in 12 years, maybe play one gig just to see how you feel after? See if you last the entire gig like"

Bowie: "Yeah, lets do a two hour Glastonbury gig live on the Beeb so".

Its fucking nonsense.

He could announce smaller warm up shows and they would sell instantly I just can't believe it would be him , to good to be true
