It's just the fact that the three biggest U.S. festivals are coachella, bonnaroo and lolla and she's playing all three but lolla is the only one she's headlining + playing lower at the other two.

Because the acts playing the other two are bigger or deemed to be more of a headline act than her.

Good summation. I know I'm about as biased as Guy on this, being a massive fan. It's sadly true that most people are aware of ten and maybe a couple of tracks off versus at best, however they are a great live band with a massive catalogue of great songs (check out rearviewmirror their greatest hits collection, it's all winners).

Any excuse to post this!

But, being realistic, if Pearl Jam were to play, they'd definitely fit an Other stage headline slot, up against a 'pop' pyramid act, better than playing pyramid themselves (IMO).

Maybe she specified the act needs a bump up cause they performed last year. So she was making a point of it.

I'm thinking the likes of ed sheeran. Not to everyone's taste but let's be honest it's gonna go down well with the majority of people there (no one here)

Either way I'm expecting to be underwhelmed if the act is a bump up

i think they have a fairly big cult fanbase, in that their fans are MEGA fans, but outside of that nah, i don't think there's much room for casual listening, which is why i can't see them ever being booked for another UK fest apart from Download or Sonisphere one year (as well as IOW which they did a couple of years back).

They headlined Reading / Leeds in 2006 after a self imposed exile after the Roskilde tragedy in 2000

All have more than 1 and a half albums. Unless we're seriously going to argue the Roses second album is front to back a quality album.

My point is that no matter how iconic or loved the Roses are, are we seriously arguing that a band with 1 iconic album and 1 underwhelming follow up, who've not released any new material for over 20 years are now going to headline the pyramid stage?

It's not a fact, it's a matter of opinion.

All those dates coincided with their tour and were ££££. And Coachella, as has been pointed out, isn't the best argument considering they bombed.

Anyway that's my last Rose's post on the matter. Hope they do play as clearly it'd make the festival for lots of people but for me it's one of the more outlandish suggestions.

Seriously? If The Stone Roses play, they headline the Pyramid.

bump up acts are usually underwhelming. regardless of us wanting festivals to generate new headliners and not rehash the same names over and over, we still want those huge names at the top of our lineups - which is why 2009's headliners look so damn impressive

Pearl Jam on the Other Stage is far from realistic though. I don't believe there are other festivals on this planet where Pearl Jam play the second stage.

Where did Emily say she didn't know what Flo was doing this summer? It's not in the eFests interview (unless I can't read)... she also doesn't say that any of the headliners this year are 'bump-ups', just expressed a general enthusiasm for watching artists rise up the stages.

Don't encourage it, lost count how many times his opinion has been shot down, he was suggesting they would play the other stage the other day... in one ear out the other...

Every other sane individual can see that if the Roses played (which they aren't sadly), it'd be as pyramid headliners end of discussion.

"i don't know her plans" (or whatever she said) kind of falls under that though, doesn't it? not exactly saying "she won't be there", but more or less

Is that all of her plans or just some that Emily doesn't know?

Ultimately, it means nothing towards whether flo is playing Glasto.

    • TVOD are playing Blue Basement in London 2/9 with a complete EOTR/Psych Fest shaped hole before their next gig in Lyon on 8/9. Well received in the Big Top last year, reckon they're nailed on for a secret set in the Tipi.
    • Didn't they widen the entrance last year to enable them to increase the number of pitches or have I imagined this? Perhaps they might return under a different form of glamping?
    • It should forever be the Tipi.   Just as the news about Geese was shared on Twitter.
    • It really surprised me that Rock AM Ring made Download feel like an extremely well organised festival with good communication in comparison. If we were to ever try either of them again we would go for IM Park and stop in Nuremberg.     Agree that the long thin mainstage isn't great, but where the mainstage is makes it really hard to navigate when it is busy because of that choke point created by the food vendors, bar/lounges with a view of main and where the crowd is coming form second stage. The concrete is hard on the joints. The front standing is a pisstake and the communication from the fest about what is happening on site other than which campsites are filling up leaves a lot to be desired. Car parks being a free for all doesn't help either.   I think it really suffers being so far from anything other than small towns/villages that lack proper public transport and Koblenz being the closest town which you can can use to get public transport to the fest being 60km away.
    • Yeah its absolutely on me that isn't think Shinia Twain was an awful choice- i get that.  Im still of the paul simon, ELO kind of thoughts but I realise things change. Im still intrigued what constitutes legend though. Robert plant played and he wasn't a legend slot- to me that would have fitted. Is it a ' comedy ' ' good time ' slot now? Comedy isn't the right word - guilty pleasure or something like that?
