I find it interesting, I live in a bubble, I guess, but Foo Fighters rarely impinge on my consciousness. I've never knowlingly listened to a Foo Fighters song, put a gun to my head, I still couldn't hum one. It's hard for me to understand exactly how big they are.

I'm a bit like this too. I know I've heard lots of FF songs over the years, but so far away are they from anything that interests me musically, that I know practically none of these songs. I know the cover to the first LP (nice artwork) and I know The Defender/The Pretender (which one is it) because Child 3 (13 years old) sings it occasionally and listens to XFM all the time. Which is fine, obviously! But other than that, I don't know their music at all. I am reasonably culturally savvy, so I know about them - the recent Sonic Highways project, about what DG has done in his post-Nirvana career etc.

I also don't dislike them, per se, and have a greater regard for them in terms of their philosophy and musical integrity than the clothes-less Emperors that are Kasabian, and their bilge.

I'd be happy for the Foos to headline, as they are a very big act - that's indisputible. And as I have said ad nauseum, the Pyramid headliners were never going to be on my GF itinerary anyway. More room for me at the Other/WH/Park etc.

Ben

I dunno, I'd say there's quite a lot of crossover appeal between the foo fighters and the vaccines.

Loathe though I am to inflame the forum by agreeing with russy, but I would agree with this wholeheartedly. Though they are not exactly the same, they do appeal to a common audience a lot of the time...

Now, don't get me started on The Vaccines. You can take your post breakup sex and shove it up your a***...

Agreed!! I don't think its us lot that get to pass judgement on who is worthy of headlining, that's Michael & Emily's job!! They clearly know what they are doing, having run the biggest music festival in the world for 40+ years...

Also, I really don't get the whole thing about Foos being "uninspiring"... They are one of the biggest bands in the world, they have never headlined Glastonbury before, they have been around for 20 years, they sell out stadiums and they are awesome live. As a booking I think they are pretty solid!

I think the thing is that with their general touring they have flogged the UK to death over the last 10 years,

Leeds/ Reading, V, T in the Park have all had them as headliners on multiple occasions, they have played wembley, loads of outdoor gigs and arena tours.

they are not difficult to see.

Having said that they do a good live show and have plenty of tunes people know, I would consider seeing them depending on clashes but definitely wouldnt watch coldplay and in all likelihood the 3rd headliner.

I'm looking forward to see the headliners on other stages on the Sunday it Swift/FatM are booked as Pryamid headliner.

The organisers will obviously know that many (many) people will be elsewhere so will be keen to avoid overcrowding. I'm expecting solid headliners all round to split the crowd evenly.

I think the headline acts just reflect the fact that the festival has become so popular. Like it or not it's a huge commercial machine now, almost everyone wants to go, so the crowd will be more bland than it used to be and the headline acts are likely to be acts like Coldplay who sell a lot of records and fill a lot of stadiums. A lot of the people that go these days will love seeing Coldplay and bellowing out the words to yellow and fix you. But luckily the festival still retains its quirkiness and has plenty of other acts to see for those who don't follow the crowd. Things change, gotta just accept it.

Last year it was mooted* that if Kasabian co-headlined with a grizzly bear it'd go some way to making their set a more entertaining watch.

With that in mind, i recommend the following team-ups:

Coldplay - Releasing a swarm of African Killer Bees during that one about the fixing people.

Foo Fighters - Having to perform in a tank full of Potugese Men O' War

Florence & The Machine - Two Hippos, an Anaconda, a Polar Bear and a Great White Shark on a trolley. All at once.

I am going to be lolling/happy if Foo's actually fell through / were never booked .. and its Florence/Coldplay/Swift.

Has Paul Mccartney been discussed? I can't remember. I know he has had his legendary sort of final performance in the last 15 years... but he seems to be clinging onto a music career. He might want to stay relevant with a Glastonbury slot. If he offered, could the organisers turn him down (hopefully on the grounds that he has "done it")?
