Hmm maybe. Surely Sonisphere don't think a very significant number of people would pay £220, go through the process of registering and successfully manage to get tickets (on top of the hoards trying anyway) all on the strength of 1 band when the same punter could just see them at Sonisphere though? Besides, surely anyone who wanted to see Metallica that much would already have bought Sonisphere tickets - and even if they hadn't the advertisement on prime time TV can only be beneficial to them.

It just seems to me the more likely option is that there's something (someone?) more to it than that. Possibly wishful thinking as I'm not particularly enamoured with them playing.

You're not considering the other way. It's not just Soni fans choosing to go to Glastonbury instead.

They could lose out on the Glastonbury punter who might have gone to Soni too to see Metallica.

That would have been me, now I'm not going to Soni but up to Hyde Park instead to see Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Soundgarden and FNM. Having seen Metallica at Glastonbury

True. That scenario is going to played out regardless of when an official announcement is made though.

...but the longer they leave it the more likely people will have already bought their soni ticket. Not everyone is as up on rumours as people on here!

#fleetwood #please #:-)

I guess we all assumed that the contractural reasons were related to sonisphere.

Maybe it was prince.

If we knew about prince joining back with his old label when Emily mentioned 'contractural reasons' maybe would we have made the same conclusions?

I can't guarantee that Metallica is right for the 'contractual reasons' thing, but I know that it is.

What I can guarantee is that it is very definitely NOT Prince. That was 100% true at the time the "contractual reasons" thing was said and remained true up-until at least 5th April (I can't say with accuracy whether anything with that might have changed since).

Prince might play or more likely he probably won't, but whichever it is there is another act to be announced in May due to "contractual reasons".

So there's two acts that are withheld for "contractual reasons"? Or am I misreading that?

You're mis-reading. There's just one as far as I know.

What i'm saying is that act is 100% definitely NOT Prince.

Prince might play (tho Emily, who I personally spoke to for about 5 minutes about Prince, really doesn't think so). Whether he does or he doesn't, he's not that "contractual reasons" act.

I see now. Fair enough.

I just hope he doesn't do the trick he did at Coachella where he is publicly announced as being in attendance, whipping everyone into a special guest frenzy.

“We are still hesitating about the second night headliner at the moment,” Michael added.

“Two or three bands are capable of it. We are trying to get confirmation of the band of our choice.

Has this been mentioned? Make of it what you will.

i need only point to the fact that iow saturday night has sold out before the other days as evidence for the fact that RHCP are a massive pull for most people and a huge band

Or because it's Saturday night for people not wanting to waste holiday entitlement for a shite festival

Ignoring all the banter, metal fans vs non metal fans etc.........

this at the pyramid would be truly epic I really hope they use this intro(as they still do lately, (ennio morricone-ecstasy of gold) definitely a calm before the storm epic moment when you hear that music kick in and know whats following :)

When was the last time they didn't intro with Ecstasy of Gold?.

rock am ring btw is not strictly a `metal festival`(hell the year this was 2006, they shared headline slot with depeche mode and also had bands like franz ferdinand and jamiriquai on the bill) and do those fans look pissed off metallica are playing? so im hoping much the same reaction will be had at glasto.....youll be unsure it until you get into it about 10 seconds after the band start playing kind of thing haha.

couple more

and my favourite all time metallica track, really hope they play this at glasto

Worth noting that Rock AM Ring always has a pretty big metal element to it, so it's not even close to being the same as Glasto.

Yes but you can't say that about Bonnaroo, and in 2008 Metallica stole the show, they also blew the Rolling Stones off stage on the big bang tour in San Francisco!

really hope they are confirmed soon, its going to be epic!

Already well aware of your biased anti metal music opinions russy the fact you would say something like `even black sabbath` as if theyre a shit band when in fact theyre complete and utter legends just further adds to that, keep trying mate lol

I mean the current version of sabbath.
