Of course they were, the Other stage headliners are usually the size of Smashing Pumpkins, QOTSA, not the biggest Metal band on the planet.

and the Pyramid stage headliners are normally very mainstream bands and the biggest on the planet, not some niche act even if it's a big niche act. Niche acts are generally reserved for the Other Stage.

We can all play that game.

In what way are they shy about it, the latest posters that have been released to magazines, newspapers, websites etc all say exclusives, people have openly asked them on twitter, live chat and in person and they've had the same stance.

Of course they've had the same stance. They'll stick to the same story until Metallica are announced for Glasto. Which they're going to be.

Pretty sure Lars says the same statement every Summer and in 30 years of being together, have never played Glastonbury.

and yet the press release they've sent out just now says nothing about exclusives, and no press release has done in months.

I say again: if it's all so certain, why is a festival that has had major problems selling tix in the past choosing to not play a full hand to push sales?

metalicbear, I'm not sure why you are so adamant that Metallica aren't playing Glasto, in the face of the evidence which appears to be saying they are.

Even if Sonisphere DO come out every minute of every day and say how exclusive Metallica are to them, this would not come as a surprise to me at all. They are not going to come out and say something which harms their own ticket sales.

Those other years didn't see a real possibility of Metallica playing. This year has. The chance is there and they want to take it and it looks very much like they're going to.

My suggestion would be to accept this or risk looking like a total idiot.

Its the only one who seems likely given the reasoning for the not announcing the Saturday headliner yet thing for `licencing reasons` as that would make perfect sense with soni having announced them as an exclusive they wouldn't want glasto ticket sales to Metallica fans to impact soni ticket sales if it turned out you could catch them here as well. Obviously all speculation but its the scenario that makes the most sense given the information available and the reasoning for post phoning the saturday headliner announcement etc

If he's stalling on playing the Pyramid, I don't think he'd be content in playing second fiddle on the Other....

1. UK Exclusive could mean just about anything they want it to.

2. The "By Request" statement is a bit misleading as on the last part of the tour they have been letting fans choose ONE song per gig - not the whole setlist.

3. I have seen Metallica both at Wembley Stadium, and the O2. I am not a Metallica fan per se, but have to admit they are an amazing live band. It will work !

4. Wouldn't it be bizarre if they don't actually play and we have contributed almost a 100 pages to a thread about the prospects of them playing !

I think your forgetting my friend this is by no stretch going to be a metallica crowd at glastonbury..nobody knew they are playing.

Yes I know by the law of averages there will be metallica fans going to glastonbury but they will make up a small percent of the crowd.

I hope your wrong about some Chavy knobs wanting to start trouble.

I want metallicas appearance to be a success for both them and glastonbury,would hate for some knobheads to spoil it
