I feel pretty upset I missed the boat on the betting for this after Friday's hype

If anyone finds bookies with an open market still...

not exactly what your looking for but if we could get some good weather reports corals are giving out prices of 9/1 for it to rain during the saturday nights headliners :sarcastic::sarcastic:

I really hope prince and Metallica don't clash with fleet wood mac that would be really annoying. :-)

:sarcastic:

Bryan Ferry is on West Holts I think

Oh man.. A choice between prince, metallica and ferry.

I think i'll choose an extended session at the long drops.

I saw odds the other week on the festival being cancelled early due to rain! The worst thing is the odds weren't even that long...

Now I have a ticket I want it to be Metallica even more.

The missus wants to see Arcade Fire: I'm not bothered, only know two songs, saw Pendulum instead of them at Reading but have heard they are good live so fair enough.

Now she can watch all of Metallica with me. Saw them headline Reading, was at the back & very drunk & Sonisphere where they put on a great show for the Big 4 show

Ok by me if Metallica play or even headline. However I guarantee that I will be somewhere else and I think most other people will be as well. I just cant see the draw at all.

Aye. But there's no accounting for taste.

One of the biggest most legendary bands of the last 40 years and you cant see the draw? fine if you dont want to take a chance on them but dont talk like you speak for the masses, thats just arrogance.

Bet you're one of those divvys who just goes to see a band to 'cross them off the list'?

I think although its plainly not going to be a traditional metallica crowd a lot of people will be curious as a lot of them will have never seen a proper rock/metal band live before and a lot of those people will be blown away by the energy and sheer intensity of it.

Metallica are an awesome live band they made their reputation from touring non stop for years and years and still do big multi date tours to date (which is more then can be said for most bands of their age) this means they have their live show down to a science and always put in an incredibly tight and intense performance, they are more then capable of pulling off a great headline show in front of so many people as they've been doing it for years!

Its going to be an awesome set from an awesome band miss it and miss out :)

Yep, a divvy.

No question they have a status in the metal scene, but I think he does have a point. They are in a niche genre and I think less than 50% of the festival will want to see them.

I don't think he said anything controversial, *he* can't see the draw, and he *thinks* most other people will be the same. Why take it personally and insult the guy?

I can't understand the negativity towards Metallica, I'm not a hard rock or metal fan but It doesn't mean that they won't be a good headliner. I have watched two of there shows on YouTube and all I can say is wow, what a show they put on. my mate who is a massive metal fan has told me to give them ago so out of curiosity I will be watching them. If you don't like a act don't watch them go somewhere else. The same reaction happend when jay z headlinend and that wasn't a train wreck that every one thought it was going to be. The one thing that glasto is what all other festival are not, is variety so if you cannot find somthing at glasto to see or do on a saturday night I question your sanity.

There's very little negativity towards Metallica, but there is people saying they won't watch them and don't think that others will, something that people have said about other acts. Crowd size means nothing, just like at U2. Certain people need to accept there are going to people who won't watch Metallica and will be set on that, just like there are people who won't watch A.F or Kasabian.

Spot on. Shame Prince blew out the festival as metallica would have been on the other stage where a niche act like this really should be.

There have been a few videos linked and even a full recent show and it's pretty desperate stuff.

Maybe live it's a completely different experience. Time will tell, as I'll probably give them a chance to see if they can live up to the hype.

I have a feeling they are going to be Jay-Z bad though.

Mark my words, Metallica 2014 will be one of those great Glasto "oh, NOW I get it" moments a la Jay-Z in 2008. People here are judging them as if they wouldn't be seeing them in the magical environment that is Glastonbury and instead you've been invited to watch them at your local arena. Once the news properly gets released the festival will gain some notoriety for their decision and will emerge victorious AS ALWAYS :)

I had a dream the other night where Metallica, in an attempt to win the Glasto crowd over, gave everyone a Takeshis Castle final game go kart and we all had to ride around shooting things they propelled from the the stage.

Strangley this didnt go down well with the crowd and all the lights were turned off on the stage. Subsiquently everyone left to find a better time.

My dream ended with me consolling Jmae Hetfield under a tree, with him claiming he couldnt see where he went wrong.

I think if they avoid this scenario they will absolutley smash it.

    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
    • I dunno - I thought that initially but I'm, reluctantly, edging towards not happening as it stands. Will continue to dig where I can, though.   Re 2028 - I wouldn't be confident. If this is the second time they've tried and it's gone belly up, it could be a case of just write it off.
