I reckon he meant us poor saps in the crowd, rather than those watching on telly.

Of course, he was probably borught up on the mean streets of a council estate in peckham or somesuch area and so is lower class and cool etc

he definitely doesnt live with his mum and dad in a semi detached house somewhere in the home counties.

No sir

Hiphop is as diverse as any genre. You have the talented and the talentless, the socially conscious and the ignorant, the substantive and the vacuous. Sadly Kanye West lies more towards the latter end of each of these three aspects.

West is a true product of new media/blogosphere. He has been very skilled at appealling to the HypeMachine/P4K fraternity - I can't say I've seen a more w*nked-over record than his most recent effort by a certain cadre of online "journo". As a live performer he leaves me very cold though - the Pyramid headlining spot is a stadium sized gig - as a result I can't see him achieving much beyond further impressing those already convinced of his "genius".

It depresses me that the hiphop acts with genuine style and substance are lucky to get a 4pm spot on the JazzWorld but this jackass gets to headline with his pitchshifted vocals and mumbling imprecise delivery.

it's not very diverse though, is it?

ps.. genres, is for losers anyway. There's 2 types of music, that which you like and that which you don't..

and there's some that you think's ok, so maybe 3 'types'

and stuff you sometimes like

that's 4

and everything in between

Seen Kanye 3 times:

At a theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue where he moaned as people were wanting him to play Jesus Walks. "You can't boo me, you know who the fuck I am"

At V Festival where I dont think he rapped more than a verse of each sone.

At Manchester Apollo where he was nearly an hour late on, didn't apologise, decided to play his new single twice and was just generally shit.

As a rapper, there's no one who can match him for his body of work in the last ten or so years but there's no doubt he's a bell end.

I'm actually quite surprised to see his name mentioned, but is one of a few potential Pyramid headliners I would actually be excited about.

He IS an absolute bellend, but I don't class that and being able to enjoy someone's music as one and the same.

First 2 albums are immense and I did enjoy large parts of Dark Fantasy too.

Saw him at V years back in the daytime and hadn't been too fussed about catching him, but thought he was really good live. That is the only time I have seen him live though.

The Johnny-come-lately approach of Glastonbury to headlining-hiphop is not unlike the recent inroads made by house music producers on the other side of the Atlantic. Where Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest should have been lauded and cherished by the masses in the UK, thus the likes of Underworld, Orbital etc never hit the deserved bigtime in the States.

Now we get Kanye headlining Glastonbury and Skrillex topping bills everywhere and even appearing in Wreck It Ralph!

Maybe this is a generational shift type thing we're witnessing, but I was around when Glasto pivotted/transitioned towards a broader appreciation/understanding and inclusion of dance music. This - at least to my eyes and ears - doesnt feel as genuine, or as warranted. Theres a whiff of guilt off it if I'm honest. They missed the boat and thus we now have this closing-time-rush booking of the 3rd solo performance from the wider Roc-A-Fella stable.

Seems a bit like the the dog walking the man as opposed to the other way round folks. Consider me unimpressed.

If we are actually ruling out headliners for being knobheads, nobody would headline ever

We would especially have been fucked for headliners over the past 10 years. Sorry Bono, no show for you. Back to V, Chris Martin. Jared Fowhill, sorry mate, you'll be waiting for a while. Macca, you'll have to promo yourself elsewhere...etc...

Said many times before but it's true.

Isn't it about the music? I know the person matter alot, but shouldn't we rule out bad artists?

Anyway, I just think alot of these "Real Rock n Roll" people dislike kanye because he's not to their tastes, which is fine... But to be honest I have no problem with it.

I can see that theres alot of things circling which may say he won't play. This means my hopes are lowered, but I'd love to see him there.

    • Been last time in 2018 when the festival was happening in parque Bela vista. ls the new location good for such a big festival? What's the temperature in the evening near Tejo? Should we bring a raincoat or a jacket?

    • Chemical Brothers? All for it cause they’re phenomenal live but struggle to see how they’d go down. Would anticipate Chase and Status/Prodigy coming back at some point though.
