Quite a few years ago one of my mates wrote to the Queen just before Christmas asking if she would give him permission to kill a swan. He went on to say that he would like to do this so that he could 'swan up' (eat it) on Christmas day to make his enjoyment of her speech to the commonwealth all the more entertertaining. He received a letter back from the Queen's secretary (Captain Charley Farnes-Barnes or some such name) stating that he could not.

As for myself I normally quite like Christmas. We had a fairly shit Christmas day last year though because most of our food shopping was stolen out of the back of a company van I was driving at about 7pm on Christmas eve. It was only when we'd got home at about 7.30pm that we realised what had happened. The thieves had obviously struck while we'd gone in to a second supermarket to get something minor like pepper or mustard which we had forgotten to buy earlier. Christmas Day was a pretty depressing affair after that.

Pretty much hate the whole of December, too much hassle. Got my twins birthday the week before Xmas as well. I always get stressed about trying to make it great for everyone then end up ill. Son suggested booking a cabin in the forest this year ( as things have been a bit crap this year), which sounds lovely, but will be muggins left with organising and packing - though sitting in a hot tub while hubby cooks Xmas dinner has some merit.

Love Halloween though, silliness and dressing up and usually a party for the kids.

I rather like Winter. What's not to like about a beautiful crisp layer of virgin snow? Early morning dog walks wrapped up in layers of old tat, misty breath, a wonderful crystalline hoar frost and thin clear winter sunshine. Marvelous.

You can stick the Christmas tunes on endless repeat in stores but there is some special sadistic joy to be had in wishing someone "Happy Winterval"! This is an especial treat if you know they are the sort who fume over "PC gone mad"...

And besides, without winter there'd be no spring...

I'm with you on this. Winter dog walks wrapped up warm with a flask of mulled wine and a pub lunch at the end is my idea of a perfect day.

Sorry guy old son but I love me a bit of Christmas!  It does start a damn sight too early mind, but I'm proper excited already :)

Definitely more about the build up though - once you get past about the day or two after boxing day it wears off, but I'll be in a Christmas jumper from 1st Dec onwards

The month of December is fine - most people are cheerier than usual and I do like the xmas period itself. The thing I don't like is the really dark nights, especially November and after Christmas. On a positive it's quote cosy with the candles going and fluffy slipper boots (I'm female).

I quite like the dark nights, and Christmas trees, fairy lights etc.  It's commercialisation I dislike, the encouraging to spend, spend, spend.  We do Christmas quite low key.  I also always feel a little sad about not being able to visit family who are all hundreds of miles away.

I Love Christmas and Festival Seasons

December and June are the only two months where

1. Drinking when you open you eyes is seen as normal and not having a Problem.

2. Eating anything and everything put in Front of you is not a worry

3. People are nice to each other for no other reason but the time of year, or you are at Glastonbury

I think it's funny how everyone celebrates Christmas when they aren't in the slightest bit religious and have no clue what it's about. It's become a commercial machine these days and leaves a lot of families skint/in debt.
