Just caught up with the Coachella set.

Where we putting them next year? They'd be a headliner for me but I know that's unlikely - Park headliner, any chance of Other do we think? Or Pyramid sub?Jamie's slot from 2024 on Woodsies seems too small for them but maybe not, very hard to gauge where they sit with the youth. Intro is viral but are any of the other classics?

If they can deliver a successful new album, would they not be straying into Friday Pyramid headliner territory?
The success of Jamie’s solo stuff has given then an extra boost in popularity, and they have a solid back catalogue. The visuals would be epic too and their sound is very ‘in’ at the moment I would say. British, the boost up they would be looking for, different genre than the other headliners - they tick a lot of boxes.

I mean I’d love this to happen.

But when the likes of Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, Oasis, Foos, Raye etc are all about I can’t see it

Fontaines would be most likely for the bump up IMO

It's Pyramid sub or Other headliner, Pyramid headliner isn't going to happen, not yet anyway. There isn't a broad enough interest there, you like them or you don't, the middle curious ground isn't a thing.

Loud Places must be popular with yoof?

That was unreal on the Pyramid 2017 as the sun was setting!

Didn’t play it at Coachella. They could definitely headline Other. They’d definitely tempt me

Am seeing them at Primavera and it will be incredible either way, but can't say I'm mad on the In Waves era Jamie xx stuff.

Would rather hear songs off In Colour or The xx tunes they've omitted (Heart Skipped A Beat, Stars, Chained)

I saw them in 2017 on the Pyramid and it was fine swaying with a pint Friday afternoon fare. If 8 hasn't been drinking all day I would probably say they were a bit dull.

Love this lot but Pyramid/Other stage early evening sunset slot at best. Any later than that and alot of people would be saying wtaf and imo rightly so.

They were very lucky to get Other top in 2013 and they had less time than TSP who played before then albeit not by long, they only did Eden Sessions the same year which likely helped a lot. 2012 they did an academy tour and brighton center. Brixton was the biggest date and there was a load of smaller academies like Shepherds Bush. I think it's fair to say it was acknowledged at the time they played last due to lighting for their set and TSP was regarded as the actual headliner....that was very much mentioned on here back then. Been a couple of cases of it. Otherwise, they would have been 3rd down based on what they were playing and probably not headlining JP due to chances of losing a crowd.

I love them but the Coachella stuff did seem a little dull. Really enjoyed the live remix of On Hold and Romys bit. Don’t really know what I was expecting.

At best other headline

Anyone touting then high than this is based on bias of being a fan airing on the unrealistic side of things. The amount of options they will have around to headline that sell tickets for fun compared will see to that.

Need their new record to come out to be able to make an informed speculation as to which slot they should get!

I really don't see them as being bigger than they were in 2017.  So, so much time has passed since then.  I mean, their album could be massive, anything could happen, but it seems likely that they're not a Pyramid Sub/Other Headliner size any more.

W Holts headliner would be lovely though.

They are top of the bill at Primavera and Rock Werchter this year. Big stage closer is still in the cards.

Oh maybe then.  With them having so few albums, it's hard to say whether they've "made it" like Cure, Oasis, Killers, Radiohead etc have, where they can disappear for as long as they like and still play at the same level they always did.

Again, everyone is right and it depends on how well the new material goes down.
