(they're obviously crap and it was pretty baffling that the Lumineers esque hey-ho acoustic shtick got such big traction - shame on the public).

This. It’s like putting some mid Devon pub jam night regulars on the Pyramid.

I always assumed with Mumford that they blasted a daft amount of money on The Stones that year, so Mumford would have agreed to take a 'lesser' fee.

Complete guess, based on nothing, mind.

Thing is even the "standard" fee for headliners being reported at the time (£250k) was far less than what pretty much any of those acts could get elsewhere.

They allegedly paid the Stones 750k as an exceptional case, and it was suggested they were the first act to get more than standard. But I doubt it affect what the other headliners got, just because an act like Mumfords would already have been cutting their fee massively even to get to 250k.

Mumfords were f**king massive when they headlined. Their songs had crazy amounts of radioplay and interest from the general public.

I don't like them but it's revision-history to think they were selected as an underplay cheaper option like XX would be.

Yeah this! Mumfords were in a different league of size to what The XX were, are and will be. I didnt think it sat right though and I really liked them then. But even as someone who finds The XX boring and thinks they make the top of any major festival look weaker, they would still sub Pyramid or headline other. One of those you've cheated out getting, one you haven't.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
