I don't know what the metric for genocide is these days, but I thought it was to completely remove one group of people based on race or religion. I don't think Israel is doing that are they? Surely they could carpet bomb Gaza several times over if they really wanted to go down genocide route

"Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, in whole or in part"

It really does look like genocide...they can always use the collateral excuse when blowing up schools or hospitals or other areas full of civilians because they thought Hamas were there...but when you start cutting off basic supplies and starving the population...

I saw a newspaper article which said a Jewish person would not be going back to Glastonbury based on what he felt watching Amyl and the Sniffers and the crowd. He has avoided West Holts that afternoon.

It could be the person is sensitive and/or has strong views that what Israeli government are doing is correct, though at the same time I'm a believer in assessing what people can do better.

It do think some people feel as though they have to pick a side, and most people on here know that is not the case and there should not be hate towards Jewish people.

I live near a Jewish populated area and I am keen to find out what the general feeling is about Glastonbury and what went on v what actually went on.

Hugo Rifkind has an comment in today's times about being Jewish at Glastonbury

but whether genocide or not...which is obviously a loaded term because of the history of the word...it is blatantly obvious that Israel is committing multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity...it really needs an intervention but with US not on board no one wants to go near it. Best hope is a ceasefire is agreed soon.

Imagine actually taking the time to log onto an Internet forum to nitpick about whether or not it's TECHNICALLY a genocide because Israel are just about managing to stay under the f**king statistical definition.

I'm really glad (almost to the point of being smug about it) that that could never be me.

I do this and the reason I do is that Isreal was founded as a safe haven after one of the worst genocides in history. Genocide, apartheid and holocaust have been used against Isreal for years. This is done to undermine the reason why Isreal was formed and thus its continued existence.

The term genocide was created after what was happening to the Jews under the Nazis.

That is why it is difficult for Jews/Israel to accept...and maybe sometimes why some like to use it against them.

But...all that aside...if Israel are guilty of it...

The UN and Amnesty International amongst others believe its a genocide.  I've asked this before but which of the following do you not thinks occuring:

The acts of genocide described by experts and human rights organisations include large-scale killing, use of starvation as a weapon of war, destruction of civilian infrastructure, attacks on healthcare workers, and forced displacement.

So your point of view is that people watching the daily horrific indiscriminate slaughter of innocent men women and children in the most horrific deaths possible, who might have concerns that a genocide is taking place, are all attempting to undermine Israel?

Give me a break. That's just splitting hairs.

Out of interest what language is it acceptable to use in your view for what has and is still taking place?

The Nazis committed many war crimes against the Jews so is using that phrase also undermining Israel's right to exist?

If destruction of civilian infrastructure is genocide then well...there's been a lot of that.

Genocide is destroying a group intentionally...and that is what will be argued in court because Israel will always argue they were targeting Hamas who were holding hostages etc,

Overall I think there's just too much evidence and it will be called genocide. Not sure that will make that much difference to anything, except a load of people saying told you so.

The Nazis were pretty explicit in what they were doing, the extermination of Jews. The term genocide hadn't been created yet.

Some are and some aren't. I can understand why someone looking at Gaza today would claim genocide. I also know I look a knob for pressing the point when people are dying. As I said this language predates the current war. It has been very common for years to hear phrases like Isreal is an apartheid state or overseeing a holocaust/genocide and it is a deliberate reference to the actual holocaust.

So the people saying it now include the same people who have said the same thing for years. They have an ulterior motive. The rest are horrified by the slaughter and want it to stop.

Certainly war crimes are happening and innocent people are dying. I'd like to see aid and health care restored to civilians even at the cost of some of it going to Hamas. But not every bombing is a war crime if Hamas has made something a military target.

Yes.
Those people who do what you accuse them of are in normal times men, women, students, teachers, nurses, bricklayers, factory workers etc. they have no wish to be fighting a war they didn’t start. Yet you think they have forfeited the right to be alive. You are sick.

Were the IDF soldiers who murdered 6 year old Hind Rajab nurses, bricklayers or factory workers?

Ultimately it doesn't matter if a small group are using the word 'genocide' with an ulterior motive, it IS a genocide.

And no none is saying every attack is a war crime.

But there is a huge body of evidence that war crimes are being committed.

Israel have attacked healthcare facilities 1,844 times and 300% more health worker deaths have died than in Ukraine despite being a 20x smaller population and in less than half the duration of the Russia war.

I'm being completely honest with you and not trying to rile you or anything but I have absolutely no idea what your point is.

    • Had a lovely day in Prague now off to the festival. Very excited hope we all have fun regardless of weather!!
    • Iran are winning. If US aren't going to do the full invasion thing, then they may as well admit defeat and do what is needed to get the strait opened. Iran obviously have decided they can take any pain and stick it out as they have all the cards with this Hormuz thing. But obviously Trump can't admit defeat, and Israel just want this to keep going...and maybe it will carry on like this till after elections in both US and Israel towards the end of this year. God knows how the global economy will be by then.
