We are nearly a century on. There have been dozens of new countries come into existence in the past century: what is it about the only Jewish one that upsets so many people?

How many of those countries were created by stealing the majority of their land from the indigenous population

And I’d sympathise with feeling that towards Hamas, but there’s an unjustifiable amount of civilian deaths. The civilians there aren’t allowed to leave, as they are under military occupation. The IDF have also blocked aid and food from entering, and killed unarmed people that have been trying to get food from designated aid points

Agreed with that, response is totally disproportionate and appalling etc etc. and the war crimes are piling up.

But...I don't...just think people need to be careful with some of the language..and maybe it rhymes and maybe he just means IDF needs disbanding or whatever...but just didn't sound right to me.

Heres a quite good an seemingly unbiased video that explains the recent history of the region that id recommend watching - (although quite high level)

I don't know about last century....but there's quite a few countries created this way. The whole of the Americas and Australia/NZ for example.

I’m not a fan of the government of any of those countries either

Well quite. But they do represent how force and wars tend to have shaped the political map of the world. It’s sort of accepted if not necessarily liked. Except for Israel.

Well it’s more than a century I know but…. USA, Canada, Australia…..

Those countries have horrible pasts but (taking a huge pinch of salt) are now mostly reasonable  to the indigenous people. People aren’t allowed to enter or exit Gaza. Israel itself is an apartheid state where Palestinian people living in Israel aren’t permitted to enter certain areas.

I agree that is a lot less ambiguous and crosses a line. The problem though is the hypocrisy and double standards of the whole thing. Netanyahu and other figures can go on the TV and advocate the eradication of every single member of Hamas. But people can't say anything about eliminating the IDF. The old saying about one man's terrorist being another man's freedom fighter. Who decides who is right and who is wrong? Personally, I love John Lennon's message, but realistically due to human nature his idea will never be possible.

And where do you stand on this sentence of yours now?

"death to the IDF" could be interpreted as inciting violence, and killing everyone in the IDF, which if taken literally could be seen as been anti semetic.

Good video that...obviously needs another hour for Oct 7th to present day.

Very good. The final couple of sentences are very poignant given that the video is clearly pre Oct 7th.

I would have cut the broadcast at that point anyway if it was up to me. Just to make it clear, at he point he starts inciting violence, then the broadcast should have been stopped regardless in my opinion. But as I said further up in the thread, there is a sense of hypocrisy. Both the IDF and Hamas are guilty of the killing of civilians indiscriminately, including women and children. So who decides that Hamas are terrorists, but the IDF are not? It's ok to call for the eradication of Hamas, but not the IDF. Double standards. Personally, I am against all wars and wish that everyone could live in peace and harmony. But as humans, we are way past that point now, sadly.

For years Palestinian Arabs were wholly and proportionally represented in all aspects of Israeli civil life, including political institutions. There was no clear will to exclude. All went down the pan this century really.

You're seeing a real one now. If the tables were turned, you'd be seeing a huge response that would stop a genocide.

I don't know what the metric for genocide is these days, but I thought it was to completely remove one group of people based on race or religion. I don't think Israel is doing that are they? Surely they could carpet bomb Gaza several times over if they really wanted to go down genocide route

They’re on their way, doing in a less obvious, but far more cruel way. Starving the people
