I was never much interested either.

One thing that probably doesn't get mentioned often enough is that before gates open the festival site during daytime can be pretty dull. It's still very much a workplace for most of the people on site with a looming 8am Wednesday deadline, and so areas may be taped off or deserted. Doesn't tend to liven up until the evening when people clock off and the bars open.

This is true , it’s amazing pre festival but it’s also a work zone - and you’re right with a deadline. It’s not a party place until the evening - everyone just wants to get it finished ready for the punters and party themselves 🙂

We spent the afternoon in the pub reframing our viewpoint and now are back to being excited about those extra couple of days, and just being there! We're especially looking forward to the crew bars again

I'm going the Friday before to help with our campsite set up and am looking forward to the pre festival weekend on site as much as the festival itself

Anyone got any info on when the Oxfam 'resale' might be?

Also, any info on if Wateraid, likely have any more posts becoming available and how/when Avalon notify people on their wait list if they have had a spot come up would be greatly appreciated too.

Based on last year, it would be next Thursday. But they won't announce it til like a couple of days before

By email, and upto a week before the festival if the last few years are anything to go by.

They seem particularly late to the party this year - training emails haven't gone out yet, so you're not missing much.

I'm just wondering on the likelihood of being offered a spot, i'm on the waiting list but will also be trying for an Oxfam spot to hedge my bets. I'd prefer to volunteer with Avalon though as i've not done it with then before.

Do you happen to remember what sort of time it usually is?

It was 10am in February. Looking back last year it was at 2:15pm in a glastonbury second release. They also did places as a 2for1 with Shindig festival, but not sure what time that was

I believe it was 11 when I got them last year (not sure exactly what number release that was) because I'd sacked off work and was in the pub by 12, but either way, feels like a good idea to leave your morning free

Pretty unlikely to be honest, it's very few places and they go incredibly quickly.

If you mean the announced Oxfam "resale" (assuming one happens) then yes absolutely.

But if someone is prepared to hold on, camp out on the site, and do so pretty much for the entire month leading up to the festival - I'd be pretty confident that they can snag a place.

If anyone ends up in that situation give me a shout and I'll try to remember how I set up the page tracker.

People who work on a computer all day have the best chance, as you can get instant alerts, right down to it flipping to the window automatically. Only problem is it'll alert for every single festival that comes up, but either way eventually it'll be the right one

Those places did come up again last year, anecdotally it's just not the same as it was in 2022 or earlier when I'd agree that would definitely work.

E.g. in 22 there was a whole afternoon when Oxfam spots were available.

So that's why I think the chances are pretty unlikely but good luck to anyone trying.

I think efforts are better directed right now at the few bars potentially still recruiting or trying to find a connection to one of the onsite opportunities that recruit by word of mouth, they've probably had drop outs from the resale like oxfam.

(Or try both!)

Also worth people who applied for Avalon and Wateraid keeping an eye on their inboxes as they might make it off the waitlist for the same reason.

Don't forget that last year a large number of Oxfam Festival Steward places for Glastonbury were guaranteed if you volunteered for Shindig. I recall this was in May? Please correct me if I am wrong.

And even though this offer took a lot of the places that would have been made available after the cancellation deadline a lot of our members still got lucky!

Keep the faith everyone! 🍀🙏🏻🤞🏻

I'm on the waitlist for Avalon and also applied to Wateraid who have said will let people already applied know if a spot comes up for them so fingers crossed.

Yes I got in this way on a 2 for 1 deal. Those that signed up for Shindig could book priority for Glastonbury return spots on 1st May and then it opened up for everyone a few days later. I think they must have decided to keep all the returns to release together in one. Expect to see final places to be released next week.

Yeah we got two of us in on the Oxfam re-release last year, and our friends in on the main one this year so that's the big chance. Agree that pushing to the last minute isn't guaranteed though

Yeah you're absolutely right, no shin dig two for one this year so maybe more spaces in their general resale?

One thing that I've noticed is that in the last two years, there was a few random drops of Oxfam spots prior to any official resale (including one each year at gone 11pm where I got a few friends their spaces).  This year, I'm not aware of any being released like that, so feels like they're saving all the spare ones up for an official resale, or as people suggest, to link to another festival where they need more volunteers

    • What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.
    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
    • I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
