obviously i dont think that, again a very poor attitude to a question that i merely asked, my original question was, did it come from a reliable place?

  that was it 😄

Yes. Cause the industry had him locked in for Coachella and he wasnt on the lineup. And when it appeared to be that he wasnt playing Coachella then the Glasto stuff came up.

I reckon you’re right. I might watch Neil Young if he were on earlier in the day, but as a headliner no. He’s hardly going to warm me up for a night of dancing

Yeah I have next to no interest in watching Neil Young. I get he's a big name, but neither I, or any of my friends have any desire to see him. We're all 25-35, and I was the only one in the group that could name any of his songs. I think his appeal within an older age group overstates how popular he is. I don't think his crowd will be SZA levels of small, but I don't think anyone that wants a good spot to see him will struggle.

100% agree about her festival pull being larger than others. A lot of my friends will go see her at Glasto but have never had an inch of interest in buying tickets.

This is it exactly. Look at Kasabian last year. Didn't sell out the 35k hometown show in Leicester, but just over a week beforehand they absolutely packed out Woodsies. You arguably could have put them on the Pyramid instead of SZA and I reckon they'd have had a pretty healthy crowd, because they're the sort of band that people know they'll have a good time seeing at a festival.

yes that’s about right but Kasabian won’t be making a dangerous crowd at Other stage either.  Anyone who could create a dangerous crowd at Other stage could easily sell 35k summer tickets!

I don't necessarily think Charli will create a dangerous crowd at Other (honestly the shape of the field would make that very difficult) but I do think it tees up for a potentially embarrassing look for the festival when Charli's crowd on the second stage looks a hell of a lot bigger than Neil's headline crowd

It's only embarrassing if the BBC fly a drone over it to do a compare and contrast.  Which they won't.

If there is any danger of a dangerous crowd for Charli, Neil Young is probably the person to be up against that will make it worse.

I know we have a few on here that are delighted that he's playing again... most people I've spoken to can't even name a song of his. I'm 39 btw. It won't be Sza level small for sure. but it won't be that busy.

I think Charli would be packed & Neil would have a decent crowd of fans and others that just want to see what he’s about. If there’s better options I wouldn’t be at either but would chose Neil instead of Charli. (I’m 32).

I’m 56 and have no interest in watching Neil Young again. I’m hoping Basement Jaxx are on the same night as him.

Same although someone seemed to have info a while ago they were Fri night. Maribou State my other hope for Sat night WH. Won’t be at Neil Young that’s for sure.

I love Charli XCX and Brat was my favourite album last year. Been so desperate to see her this year, but I don't think I'd ever forgive myself for missing the legend that is Neil Young. It's the worst clash for me. I think there'll be a few people in my boat too, I think I would probably see Neil Young - more chance of seeing Charli somewhere else.

If I was neutral that would be my strategy as well.  Last chance saloon for Neil, Chazza will be kicking about for years to come.

My two cents on Charli is that I believe there's a good chance, if she's up against Neil Young, that she'll have the bigger crowd of the two.

The fact that Victoria Park hasn't sold out yet has a lot of caveats to it, such as the fact that there's a hell of a lot of big artists touring next year, the show was announced whilst she was already doing a tour, and maybe people aren't as willing to travel to see her but would watch her all the same.

Look at how busy the likes of The Sugababes, Avril Lavigne, etc have been in recent years and compare it to their demand outside of the festival. You get a lot of people who'll see them because they're at the festival, but wouldn't necessarily see them elsewhere - I think Charli may well be a huge example of an artist with the festival pull.

You've also got to bear in mind the age of people at the festival. Whilst Glasto's age demographic may skew slightly higher than other major festivals due to the fact that it's Glastonbury, but the overall crowd will still be largely made up of 16-30 year olds - An age group which are much more likely to have an interest in Charli than Neil Young.

Exactly that, a lot of people will hold off on tickets and grab them off websites later when they see if they are playing a festival they are going to or not. You are clearly getting less and less tickets inside the early tiers gor tickets too. I think Charli has been way over priced through not doing anything that major in terms of touring.

Anyone who can play a huge gig in America likely that automatically means on their mind they can do it over here.

Whilst also sliding past the point that should Olivia as expected play Glastonbury, she'll have chosen to do a festival paying her 250k and not Coachella on the same year cycle round.

Think I've mentioned this before but wasn't the Avril issue more down to the movement of the crowd and how they didn't have much time to make it over in such large numbers, rather than the size of it?

So if they put someone more suited to Neil Young on before him, and not like Chappell Roan or something all the Charli XCX fans would want to see, then her crowd should filter through over time instead of within half an hour? So even if it's big it shouldn't matter as much

Both probably contributed. There was too many people all making the same journey (albeit via a few different routes), but there was also far more people than there should be both in the field and unable to reach the field.

Or Neil's crowd turns out to be thin enough that people start sharing photos of it like they did with SZA

Completely agree. A few people at work have tickets for the festival, so we were having a discussion about it the other day. The only people that had any knowledge of who Neil Young is or any of his songs were 40+

Yes, that would look bad - but I think it's exceedingly unlikely.  More like it will be like The Cure's or Guns'n'Roses'.

Yeah, I do agree on that. Just think there's definitely potential, with a certain level of competition on other stages, for people to decide to go elsewhere other than see Neil

I'd expect the lowest crowd to be The 1975 of the three, but it's not going to be historically low unless they book an absolute slam-dunk against them on the Other.

Given that it seems to be Loyle Carner, I think they'll be fine.

Interesting - I thought they'd draw fairly healthy numbers tbh.

Honestly, I don't think this site actually represents the demographic of the festival all too well. Maybe it did 10 years ago, but I do feel as though this site aged in that time, whilst the festival's demographic likely stayed around the same.

Me too. If The 1975, Neil and Olivia are the 3 headliners (in that order), I'd fully expect The 1975 on Friday night to draw the biggest crowd of the three
