I think it's still reasonable to a point.  Yes I can go onto a service and find songs by someone and see their back catalogue, so agree there's scope to go and listen and discover, and limited to be able to say "who's that?"

But at the same time it's fine in the context or recognising any songs, knowing them if you hear them etc. I can go and reel off a list of tracks by Bad Bunny like a Wikipedia entry, but I still don't know them.

If someone's using "I don't know them" as shorthand for "festival's gone" then sure, they can do one.  But even in this day and age it's fine not to know an artist. There's so much music available it would be weirder to know everyone.

But why even say anything if you don't know an act? There's usually a massive arrogance associated with people commenting "who?", as if the sun revolves around them.

Depends on the thread, and depends on the person.  If someone pops onto a thread just to say "who" and they've got no history of engagement or involvement other than saying stuff like that, they're probably being a tit.

If it's somewhere like this, which is often more like a load of ongoing pub conversations slowed down to a crawl, and it's a poster who's engaged in the conversations, then it would be perfectly normal to say it.  If I was having a pub chat and someone said to me "Oh I see that Ichiko Aoba is playing Glastonbury" it'd be perfectly normal for my response to be "Who?" or "Nope, never heard of 'em".

I'll concede that a conversation on a forum is very different from commenting on Facebook on some lineup announcement.

Wether its a good or a bad thing music mostly being on demand now - should eliminate this WHO? or i do not know any songs by????

Literally we are in an age where you type a name into google and 10 sec later we can be listening.

Yep I did not Know any Cat Stevens tracks when he was named, Yes I did recognise a couple when i did a little deep dive into him on spotify. No longer worth the time kicking of that you don't know someone now its all self Serve.

Nobody cares that you can have all the music in the palm of your hand cause they only listen to what the algorithm says.

Would be an interesting experiment if you had to force some young kids who just got into music and stuff to do it like it was done 30 years ago. Go to a record store, find stuff and hope its good. No streaming or anything. Like make them have to use a cd player or record player, and no internet.

Radio and MTV existed 30 years ago, as did things like record libraries and listening stations.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. You're right, the FB type comments are a mess.

I know its not the same, but the suggestion that you couldn't try before you bought and that every album purchase was a blind stab in the dark is nonsense.

Some fun to be had in the latter, though.

It was definitely more likely that an album purchase had an element of the unknown. Cash Converters was a great source of cheap album experimentation!

The real arseholes use "so called" instead of "who?".

Although it does tend to get used for stand ups more than musicians.

Agreed. The absolute worst.

    • Having watched Linkin Park's Rock am Ring set I'd imagine they've used a different stage specifically for their light show, its insane
    • Blink, Slipknot and Maiden
    • Good luck! Have you also registered your interest on Twickets? https://partners.twickets.live/endoftheroad/ 🙂
    • Likelihood is it'll be on Sunrise and Alcove but theres potential for some more in the tent as there have been 8 acts on some days in recent years. Obelisk is likely full now unless they have a few shorter sets thrown in   Im surprised they haven't had some secret sets thrown into the mix this time round unless they do and we find some gaps in the schedule is released
