Rodrigo latest album was full of sex songs, are parents thus really buying tickets for their kids?

I can only think of one line in all of Guts songs that's explicitily sexual, and I'm pretty sure I know most of the lyrics. Olivia's songs are the definition of family friendly.

The fact that she curses in various songs makes them not exactly family friendly.

<quote>The singer told the BBC's Sidetracked podcast brat was a concept that represented a person who might have "a pack of cigs, a Bic lighter and a strappy white top with no bra".

"You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes," Charli explained on social media.

"Who feels like herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt.

"A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat."  </quote>

Hmmm. Inspiring stuff

Purely a marketing thing, isn't it?

It is because the album is terrible.

I’m pretty sure I have never heard a single song by Olivia Rodrigo or Charli XCX, always seems weird when people talk about acts like this headlining Glastonbury but I guess that makes me old. Felt the same about Dua Lipa last year, I had just come off shift with Oxfam when she was on last year so stopped to see what the fuss was about, all sounded very samey to me, not my bag so went over to Idles instead.

Will always seem odd for me to see acts who I would expect to be at Radio 1 big weekenders headlining Glastonbury though…doesn’t seem right.

There's the odd swearword, but none of them are really "sex songs"

I would say that one of the words that Glastonbury uses to describe it self is Contemporary which a quick google tells me means  "belonging to or occurring in the present." This has often been written on the poster

I do not personally see any difference between Dua Lipa & Olivia Rodrigo headlining now -   as in 1995 when Pulp & Oasis headlined -  they are/were both contemporary bookings.  As apposed to pinning it self with a specific genre of music or style Glastonbury's flex is that it will move with the times.  These are just the big acts of the time.

Definitely do not agree that its odd - Id say these are the kind of act we should expect to see headline?

you do not of course have to like what is contemporary - the beauty of the place is that if the acts of the moment are not your thing - there are loads of other places to be.

Makes you think - who was the first music artist massive in the general public sphere that had notable sexual content in the songs?

Elvis? By modern standards you might consider it tame, but for the time it wasn't.

George Formby wants a word.

I had an old uncle who played the ukulele and did Formby impressions, one of his favourites was;

with my little stick of Blackpool rock

it might be sticky but I don’t complain

its nice to have a nibble now and again😳

and yes, he was a creepy old git.

Nirvana without Kurt is almost as ridiculous as Queen without Freddie.

that's exactly how I felt about it until I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance.  As someone who never got to see Nirvana, I found it incredibly emotional to witness them play live, each song with a female vocalist of a different generation.  I don't think it's a show that needs to tour, but I love that some formation of the band happens from time to time.  It's like a getting one more hug from a friend that's passed away.

Could be Dave's way back strategy.

*If* they were going to tour it...who would you want up front? "I don't want them to tour" is not a valid answer to *this* question.

Joan Jett was the pick the other night - thought St Vincent was all over the shop, which was odd. John MacAuley of Deer Tick has been the best of who they've had so far, so he'd probably be my pick, though I think Dave would pick a female vocalist, which is fair do's. But who?

Any gender...
