That's hilarious !

O Rod is surely bigger than Charli XCX, who I think is only huge within a very specific demographic (18 - 22 year olds?) that the Glastonbury demographic must skew older than

I’m 51.. can’t name a single O-Rod song but a huge fan of Charli xcx since 2012 when I Love It came out.. Brat is huge.. lots of similarly aged friends are into her.

God forbid two new female artists can’t both be successful and in the ascendency.

As the famous Charli XCX lyric goes: "We see you over there on the internet, comparing all the Charli XCX's who are killing it"

Not a snake's chance of that.

Right now, feels like:

The 1975 / ???

Loyle Carner

Neil Young / Pulp

Charli XCX

Olivia Rodrigo / Duran Duran

The Prodigy

Let me stress, absolutely no basis for Pulp, Charli XCX, Duran Duran or The Prodigy outside of date speculation. Loyle Carner info was dropped shortly after the info for The 1975, I think?

Loyle Carner came before The 1975

You're overlooking the fact that, despite selling fewer tickets and fewer records than O-Rod, Charli still the bigger artist.

Not sure whether joking or not but nope, she's absolutely not lol.

Don't think anyone is saying they can't? The conversations are no different to the discussions about male artists/bands and their size or how much of a crowd they'd draw in. Like Fender and 1975. Or when people have given their opinions on other, vintage male artists instead of Neil Young and Rod (which has been a very prevalent convo on here of late).

Yeah, never heard of O-Rod either...thought it was a drainage company or something.

But I know all about Charli XCX because I had such a brat summer last year.

I’m still trying to manifest Pulp-Duran Duran-Chappell as my sub trio.

There was something in the wording of the Duran Duran gig announcement that made me think it was at least a distant possibility.

“One of only two U.K. *headline* shows this year”

This would be seriously, seriously good 🤌

brat summer wasn’t for you, but if you really did ‘hear’ about it, there’s no way you haven’t also heard of O-Rod so nice try, Stevie 😂

Wtf does that even mean though?

Brat summer was mainly picked up by a bunch of cringe 30+ year olds who wanted to feel hip and young. Such as the New York governor and NYC mayor jumping on the bandwagon. I bet most people who promoted it couldn't even name five tracks by Charli.

<quote>The singer told the BBC's Sidetracked podcast brat was a concept that represented a person who might have "a pack of cigs, a Bic lighter and a strappy white top with no bra".

"You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes," Charli explained on social media.

"Who feels like herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt.

"A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat."  </quote>

Hmmm. Inspiring stuff

Purely a marketing thing, isn't it?

The quote didn't work, but you get the picture. My coding needs some work lol

This before or after the New York mayor got indicted for corruption and turned into a full "I'm above the law" type?

Quite bratty behaviour if I do say so.

Brat was just pushed hard on BBC Radio 1 and 2. When you get Jeremy Vine saying brat this and that you know it's a narrative being followed

I guess the fact I don't listen to radio is why I probably fell through the cracks on that one.

I was aware it briefly featured as a discussion in US politics in the summer for some reason. I also think I likely would've heard it because I really like The Japanese House and they were a featured artist on one of the songs... admittedly one I haven't heard cos I'm just weird like that.

    • Plenty of good stuff this month. Very difficult choice, but I'm going with some of those I've listened to most (the sunny weather may also have been influential)...   1. The Coral - 388 2. Kurt Vile - Philadelphia's Been Good to Me 3. The Lemon Twigs - Look For Your Mind!   Others I've been enjoying... Laurie Anderson's live album, Broken Social Scene, Pigeon, The Black Keys, etc
    • Yesterday was was Primavera is all about and a reminder of why I come back every year. I saw 9 acts, very diverse in terms of genre and vibe, and most of them were great.  Highlights:   The Cure - have wanted to see them for years. Finally caught them and it was immaculate. Robert Smith's vocals at his age are incredible. The band sounded exactly like the albums which is impressive. 2.5 hours with basically no filler somehow.  Viagra Boys - what a front man! So much energy. Non stop moshing. Sound was great, vibe was top notch. Again 10/10 for me.  Rilo Kiley - basically what pipan said. Not a huge crowd but nice vibe, good sound. Different from the other acts I saw.   I also enjoyed the late night electronic stuff with Aurora Halal and KI/KI being fun. Caught some of Skrillex before Aurora Halal and it was cool in it's own way but not really my thing so we left.
