That would have been amazing

I'd want to be a part of it, for sure.

Or perhaps maybe even headliner or nothing?

Top of the heap, without doubt.

Would have been dreadful, unless you fancied a snooze

Hit with those down votes

You’re going to get a lot of downvotes if you keep slating music others like. It comes across as very closed minded.

Sinatra's mistake was not being a middling UK dance act from the early 1990s.

Curse his ill health in later years for denying us those planned Snap and Utah Saints collabs

What’s the general consensus on how old an act has to be to qualify for the Sunday afternoon legends slot? Or is it more a ‘years in the industry’ type thing?

It's tricky to put a number on it, because there's so many factors that'd impact suitability.

Kylie was the youngest to do it, both in age at the time and in terms of career length, by a huge margin (certainly more than 10 years), but still didn't seem out of place. So I'd say that she'd be the benchmark for an "absolute minimum" of 30 years active but most people will have much much more under their belts.

I think in her case it felt right partially because she's pretty much achieved "national treasure" status, and partially that she had her own history with the festival in terms of having to pull out of the headline slot all those years earlier. Take away either of those and I don't think the booking happens until much later.

It's probably as much a vibes thing as anything else

e.g. Robbie Williams is suitable for it but Iggy Pop isnt, despite the latter being far longer in the tooth.

OK, I think I get it. Let me throw some names at you and you can give me a Yay or Nay as to whether they would be suitable:

  • Culture Club
  • Spandau Ballet
  • Will Young
  • Gabrielle
  • Natasha Beddingfield
  • Wet Wet Wet
  • M People
  • Natalie Imbruglia

@incident feel free to answer too (I had already replied when I saw your post).

Because they’re not big enough acts? Or the vibes not right?

So people more along the lines of:

  • Bonnie Tyler
  • Michael Bolton
  • Eurythmics
  • Simple Minds
  • Duran Duran
  • Tears For Fears
  • The Human League
  • a-ha

Man. I was gonna type Michael Bolton on here for a laugh a couple weeks back - has there actually been any chat whatsoever about him on this forum? Apologies, I've only been keeping half an eye on it.

Only Duran Duran and maybe a reformed Eurythmics are the right sort of size. Others would play other slots elsewhere...
