Any chance someone could explain (like your talking to a 5 yo) what the different weather models mean?

im not an expert at all but i think different models but in different possible variables and predict what happens. the closer to the date we get the less possible variables therefore the more accurate we get?

thats my take on it anyway 😄

High pressure = good (usually red or orange)

Low pressure = bad (blue/green).

ECM - Europe

YR -Norway

UKMO - UK

GFS - Global forecasting system (I think)

I'm out.  Someone take over.

Correct for the GFS - it’s the American model.

ECM - European Centre of Medium Range (independent organisation with input from most of the European nations)

in the simplest terms each model takes observations and previous data to predict the future. They are all set up differently so when small changes to the the atmosphere could have a big impact they will give different forecasts like we have seen over the last few days.

They have their own strengths and weaknesses. ECMWF is considered the most accurate in the medium range (3 days plus) and MO up there especially in the short range ( up to 3 days)

    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
    • This Isaac wood news has dropped right out of left field. Great to hear he feels up to doing live stuff again    what will he play? Solo stuff , old BCNR stuff?    It’s only in November , it’s a bold booking to for someone who has previously had some struggles to come back and play a load of new stuff to crowds that big
    • Wow, Blink-182 back so soon. They’re the band they’ve never booked then. Great booking if they’ve got them.    Deftones, Papa Roach, Knocked Loose   Lamb of God   Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte   Megadeth   Slipknot, Gojira, Motionless In White   All Time Low
