I thought so. Already up to 'I' in the winter storm names. I don't remember them going much further than 'K' before... But maybe I just get sick of hearing about them by that point and switch off.

Maybe it's easy to comment but I remember being drenched by a storm cell in Lisbon in October that also hit the UK, then another one, then a huge deluge between Christmas and New Year's, and now this.

Least I'm not trying to catch a flight. I've heard of some of the crazy detours for Ryanair flights that couldn't land in Dublin where it's been really bad.

Currently in North West England and wondering if my windows are going to blow through overnight... Definitely feels and sounds that way right now. Thought we'd got away with it as the daytime wasn't as bad as expected.

In the area of southern England I live, it wasn't that bad but the final hours of the day were pretty intense. I do recall my dog taking one look at the conditions when I offered a walk and she said "Absolutely not"

Maybe that's just the way of things. Certainly I can remember Babet for giving me a drenching while I was in Lisbon in October and getting soaked just walking from one end of a street to the other to get some lunch.

Not really

The criteria for what counts as a storm seems to be going down year on year. 

Yesterday, for example, was just a bit windy.

Couldn't get the train this morning as someone's whole greenhouse was on the railway track! 

So, yes, bit windy is an understatement.

Just had a really freak thunder and lightning storm here in the east! Very rare in January, weather is moving mad at the moment! God knows what that means for Glasto weekend. Probably absolutely nothing

Back when I was a lad it wasn't a storm unless at least one of your immediate family members was killed.

Climate data says that 2016 was one of the hottest years in human history, maybe the hottest to that point. Consensus is that 2024, globally, is going to be the warmest in history, so it bodes poorly if that's the precedent.

In the UK, it wasn't even top 15 no matter what methodology you use.

I think we are talking specific rather than generally though and I don't hear anyone who went to Glastonbury in 2016 talking about it as one of the hottest. It up there as one of the muddiest.

Hence why I said it bodes poorly, given the duality of 2016 being one of the warmest years in human history while also giving Glasto-goers a proper mudbath. But then we had that here this year anyway given July and August 2023 were pretty sh*t while most of the world was burning.

Yes worldwide temperatures never seem to reflect the reality of life in the UK. Was offering to send some rain to some friends in Spain all last year. Think Glastonbury was probably the only nice weekend of the Summer last year.

I remember a teacher friend being annoyed that August was poor, then when she went back to school in September it suddenly turned into 30 degree heat and constant sun. So yeah, that timing dissonance can happen.
