ProperTea
Just having a read through this morning's Guardian article and this struck me.. Quote In October, Glastonbury made headlines when it announced that ticket prices would rise by £55 to £340 (including booking fee). “We put it up [by] the minimum we could,” said Eavis. “In order to do the exact same show as last time, we would have had to put £100 on the ticket. That’s the amount that costs have gone up.” So they're not going to be able to do the same stuff this year... what will be cut? Alcatraz
I think people are mis-reading this. She's suggesting that to pull off the exact same line up as last year, would cost 100 quid more a ticket. Shes using last years lineup, an absolutely slammed one coming out of the pandemic which is near impossible to repeat, as a base comparison
CaledonianGonzo
That's my take too......but I dunno who cost them so much last time around.
moogster
I'm hoping the smaller areas don't take a hit, T&C and all...

Kendrick wouldn't've been cheap, surely. Diana Ross too. Macca. Although £100 on each ticket is about 20 million.
kalifire
I'm not too bothered. Like @Padjeq said, they had some presumably pretty expensive headliners last year. Elton won't have been cheap but the others, plus an extra fifty quid a ticket, shouldn't see any major changes, I wouldn't think.
CaledonianGonzo
Poster still talks about the 100 plus stages.

He certainly wouldn't have been cheap for what was for all intents and purposes a European exclusive show (yes, yes, he did a warm up in Italy). Avalon_Fields
Unless Williams Green isn’t replaced by anything equivalent, saving some money?

Yes, see the Williams Green thread, I don’t think there was an official announcement but rumours were from various sources.
Guest
I bet a lot of acts on the smaller stages just play for a ticket don't they?

Mark Greensmith
I had a look at their accounts out of interest. They pay themselves very little and reinvest the majority. Pretty confident the extra revenue generated from ticket increase as well as any proceeds last year will be enough to keep the party going at a similar level.

I'd do a runner if I was them lol

I remember Beans on Toast explaining it the one year - at his level (around five years ago) there were two types of gigs at the festival: those that come with a ticket, and those that don't. You need the first one to get in, before you can book in any others. If you take a look at wherever the likes of Beans or Mik play each year, it's much certain that only the biggest of those venues offers a ticket. faymondo
I read a post from a well known DJ a few years back who's name I cant remember and he basically said its not worth doing Glastonbury unless you want to tick a box on your played list. If they're looking at it from a purely financial perspective, then that's absolutely true. Even with name value DJs though there's plenty who still do play for a reduced or even no fee simply because they enjoy going to the Festival - so if they put aside the "this is my job" aspect, fundamentally they get an elevated level of access to the best party on earth in return for pressing play on their laptop and waving their hands around for an hour or two. Not just the acts though, it’s the tent itself, sound infrastructure and staffing. Hiring and paying for that alone would be a lot more than making spaces for traders, which by all accounts make a shedload for the festival.
