The 1975

Be curious to see where they do crop up in London.

As much as I want them atop the Pyramid Stage, think - unless the Arctic Monkeys hunch is absolute cobblers - they'll only be there as a secret set. Cannot picture them settling for sub or Other when they've just sold out a full arena tour and had a top billing at R/L last year. (Granted, they were a late pick-up, but still.)

Its hardly a hunch at this point

Know there are a lot of Arctic Monkeys fans out there, and at a ten-year gap, it's absolutely a fine remove for a repeat booking.

It just feels so... shurg-worthy.

Two latest albums that have largely alienated their old fanbase, neither of which have any festival ready bangers, kind of stale setlists, ropey live reputation… it’s no real mystery why it’s gotten a bit of a ‘eh’ reaction (on here, at least). I really do hope they smash it on the night, but the odds are kind of against that happening, and instead it just being… fine.

Looks like The 1975 are about to announce a summer EU Tour as Paris and Vienna dates in June and early July have leaked. I wonder if this will eat into their GSH at all?

Imagine going to Paris and not playing Paris, the absolute scenes.

It's like Bruce Springsteen only ever touching Streets of Philadelphia when he's in Philly.

No doubt his fans will forget about it like they usually do though.

I'd have no problem with Matty Healy if he was just a bit of a troll, going on Friedland's podcast is clearly to provoke.

What I have an issue with is that you get accused of being some vile misogynist if you're not a fan of him or his work. Him, his friends and fans are happy to use identity politics and online shaming to defend him, but then as soon as he does something like this he's just pushing against cancel culture etc.

he is just operating on a level that most of us can't understand

He is playing 4d chess when most of us are playing 1d at best

Matty’s latest controversy has hit the press, I wonder if this will affect their chances at the BRITS tomorrow. Although I think we’re in for a Harry / Wet Leg sweep anyway.

They’re not performing so were probably not going to win anyway, other than perhaps Best Rock/Alt which is fan voted.

Think they will probably get Best Rock / Alternative, but we'll see.

Not surprised it has hit the press though. A friend called Matty Healy the "Gen-Z answer to Jeremy Clarkson" the other day, and even as a sizable fan of The 1975, I can absolutely get that.

I'm not sure I agree that Emily's "ick" radar is particularly efficient. This is the festival that booked Kanye West to headline after all. (Granted, with hindsight.)
