Behave! TBH&C is and they sacked off the rest of their tour to prove it. AM made them a massive force again after Suck it and see made them disappear quickly.

AM was what Arctic broke the US with and got headline slot off of basically and if you can be an English Rock band and do that in America in the last 10 years you're doing okay.

Bar their debut album which goes down as one of the top 5 debuts certainly from and English Rock band in history, AM is by far their best selling album.

None of that makes it good though.

AM is their worst album by a country fucking mile, and yet they continue to fart it out for almost a decade now.

I hate it too but we're in the minority there - it's easily their most popular album with the more modern audience.

I'm happy to admit I just hang on to the old days and I'm not entirely convinced I'd like much by them if it wasn't for the memories associated with those first two albums and being at uni, indie nights etc.

Humbug is there best album, sad they don't play it much these days apart from Pretty Visitors. Good to see they are playing Potion Approaching again but 8/9 songs from AM is poor. Shouldn't be dropping 4 out of 5 from the setlist too!

Yeah I really don't get this, it's clearly the most accessible song from TBHC and then by all accounts it looks like AM7 will be in a similar-ish vein. It's weird they tried so hard to move on from AM and even admitted to scrapping songs which were too 'AM2' like and then writing a slow album about a hotel on the moon but then they still just play live as if it's the AM tour.

Matt hit the nail on the head further up - AM is boring. First two tracks are decent but it quickly becomes one paced and lyrically dull.

Humbug and SIAS are both far more interesting both musically and lyrically and TBHC at least tries to do something a little different. AM just plods along to an unsatisfying finish. That they have been filling their setlists with the same turds for close to a decade now is seriously dispiriting. Does anyone really need to hear One For The Road or Snap Out Of It again?

  • Humbug
  • SIAS
  • Whatever...
  • FWN
  • TBHC
  • AM

That's a bit harsh, I think people just love to hate it now because admittedly there are some over played tunes on it. But it probably has the most singalong tracks since their debut.

I'd also put No. 1 Party Anthem and I Wanna Be Yours in my top 10 Monkeys tunes

If they came on at Reading & played only Humbug and TBHC tunes, they'd get bottled off!

I like both albums, but in terms of festival bangers (that word again), AM & the debut album have far more.

only kidding myself here but i'm hoping something like when the sun goes down comes back for r&l

1 Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

2 AM

3Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

4 Favourite Worst Nightmare

5 Suck It And See

6 Humbug

1, 2, 6, 4, 5 for me. 3 isn't even worth the mention for me. It's the definition of we tried something completely different and forget about that period.

Humbug grew on me more over time.

AM are known by two generations, the whatever generation and the AM generation.

And I think they’ve essentially doubled down on the AM generation and decided that’s the album they’d prefer to be known for.

When you're a multi-millionaire rock star you don't really wanna sing about girls in chip shops.

I think it’s largely just a case of them really not liking their earlier stuff all that much and AM being their most recent popular album/the one that gained them the most fans worldwide so they’ve decided to just go with it as their setlist filler. Guaranteed to get the crowd going and probably still enjoyable to play for them unlike the really early stuff which they seemed to go off pretty early on.

A solitary song from Suck It And See is a travesty.

Arabella, One For the Road, Knee Socks don’t need to stay. A good setlist from them imo would be

The View From The Afternoon
Brianstorm
Snap Out Of It
Crying Lightning
Teddy Picker
Dancefloor
Pretty Visitors
High
Tranquility Base
Fireside
Potion Approaching
Cornerstone
Do Me A Favour
Four Out Of Five
One Point Perspective
Fake Tales of San Francisco
Mardy Bum
Do I Wanna Know?
505

When The Sun Goes Down
Suck it and See
R U Mine

Still sticks with 21 songs like they enjoy doing. 90 minute.

good cause it's absolutely butchered by them these days. I would drop Dancefllor too tbh.

Only first album song they do well is View from the Afternoon imo.

From the ritz to the rubble was brilliant live on the last tour especially at TRNSMT 18, should be played a lot more

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
