Live gigs - Who you've seen were they good, bad etc.

Westside Cowboy at Brudenell last night.  Took a couple of songs to get going and get sound right but were great after that. 

 

Hollyhead in support. Musically liked them but not so keen on singers vocals.

Feels like an age since imagine disk came out but finally got the chance to catch Magdalana Bay at the Manchester Apollo. 

 

Only managed to catch a couple of songs by Support Act Allie X -  but looked like it was going down well, the first observation of the crowd was young -  most of them id guess in the 20-25 bracket -  I was led to believe by the grumpy people of the internet that this would mean a see of static people pointing mobile phones but not the case. 

 

The atmosphere was great crowd was bouncy, the band rattled though 24 songs including I think Imagine Disk.  Singer Mica Tenenbaum bounced around the stage interacting with the stage decor they had brought and managed to do several costume changes though the set which i did not even notice - something im not so used to the acts that i normally see doing.  The production felt big like it was for an arena band and if there next album is any wear near as good as the last then im sure the next time they are in the UK it will be arenas.

Looks like they will be well out of tour/album schedule for the next Glastonbury but hopefully they are on the radar IMO - be a cracking Woodsies headliner

1st gig of the year last night for me, Westside Cowboy at the Bullingdon in Oxford.  It has taken me a while to come around to them but they were great live, pleasantly surprised.

First of the year for me, Florence and the Machine in Glasgow, incredible night! Atmosphere was insane , amazing stage show! Brilliant setlist, new songs sounded amazing , would 100% have her headline the farm next year. Wow! Just wow!!

Well that plan failed so... London O2 next Monday it is. Despite me scheduling a dental appointment outside London for 3:30 that afternoon.

Excellent set from Suede at the UEA Norwich last night

I know he’s not overly popular by the crowds on here. But I went to Fred Agains show at Ally Pally last night. He played for almost 5 hours, it flew by. Exceptional sound and all round production. The Guardian gave it 5 deserved stars. He will headline the G in the next couple of years undoubtedly.

I was there last night too and echo your comments. Was a really special night and really enjoyed the 5 hour set, production, sound etc. 

 

No doubts he will be headlining G, there seemed to be a lot of casuals there last night, but all seemed to be having a great time.

I went to the last of the Mumfords album

launch gigs at Bath forum last night. My wife’s thing tbf. Anyway, cheap tickets and close up gig for a big act now.

Absolutely phenomenal time seeing Deftones for the first time at the Co-op Live last night for my first gig of the year.  Fantastic performance from Chino and the lads - he barely stopped jumping and running around the stage and seemed so delighted and happy to be there. The crowd was absolutely lapping it up too and the mosh pits looked absolutely insane, especially for Change (In the House of Flies), My Own Summer and 7 Words. Strong contender for one of my favourite gig experiences.

 

Missed out on Drug Church unfortunately but Denzel Curry was also stellar as the support act. Been a massive fan of his for a while now and his Glasto set last year was a highlight of the weekend so to finally see him in person was absolutely worth the wait. Incredible live performer with boundless energy and brilliant controlling of the crowd (giving the crowd permission to punch anyone who was giving any girls in the pit bother got a chuckle out of me). Hearing his Bulls on Parade cover live was the icing on the cake. Would love to see him at his own headline show very soon!

2 gigs in 3 days for me-both at Brixton Academy. DMAs on Thursday followed by Maximo Park (supported by Art Brut) on Saturday. 2 fantastic nights of live music-man I’ve missed that venue. First time back since the reopening. Hands down the best venue in the UK!

Yeah my favourite gig venue by some distance and have been lucky to have seen a good few of my favourites there over the years.

Seemed like Machester went all out for gigs on Saturday with most of the venues having something on -  I found myself in the Tiny Yes basement watching Chicagos Pixel Grip do just over an hour of absolute high energy action. If your not familiar with the venue this little clip practically shows the whole room -  which absolutely bounced for the whole time felt like a workout. 

 

Massive respect for them coming over here and playing these venues as sadly for a US band to come to do such small shows its probably not the most financially lucrative.  Probably the best gig atmosphere ive experienced this year.  

 

In an era where stadium and arena gigs are costing megabucks -   This is a great reminder that you can still have a cracking gig experience for just over a tenner. 

 

really hoping that they get picked up for some UK festivals as they deserve some recognition - they would kill a set at Glastonbury on Strummerville, Greenpeace or even Lonley Hearts Club.

And then Sunday.....   I saw Sorry for the 3rd time in the last year or so - no complaints though as they remain one of the most underrated acts  out there -   Gorilla this time admittedly not one of my favourite small venues - and even though the gig was apparently not sold out it was quite sardined in there.   Still band on form got though a stacked 18 song setlist with the new album getting a heavy play with the big tracks of the first two albums still very much part of the set.

i thought last night they sounded ace, echoes live is just stunning, i closed my eyes as it built up.

 

also first time ive ever seen a band member walking through the venue to ask if anyone had makeup prior to going on 😅

Haha nice, I first head Echos before it was released at the show last year - after they played it and a crowd bounced to a song they never heard before - was followed by a glance between the band - it was then the next single

Got a week off this week and her indoors  has a couple of busy days in work but will be working from home, so being considerate Ive decided to have a bit of a road trip. Bath tonight to see Suede followed by a run up to Nottingham to see Maximo Park. Relive my youth and visit a couple of venues I haven’t visited before
