Anyone else have Werchter and Tomorrowland creating a brand new festival on their 2022 bingo card?

Sorry for the double post and quoting my own comment, but I’ve just twigged - is this the solution for The Strokes conundrum?

Sadly no, they’re playing Boston Calling on the 28th.

Ah good spot. Either way I’m intrigued by this. I wonder if it’s a case of there being so many bands from both genres going round that the promoters just felt that they could not miss out on them. Either way it’s exciting to get some positive vibes out of Belgium because I can’t imagine they announce this if they think they’re going to have to cancel again

I read "Core Festival", I really thought they'd do a metalcore/hardcore festivals... then I saw it was done by Werchter and Tomorrowland. They almost get me! And I really doubt about MUSE headlining such a "small" festival even if their last festival shows didn't get the success they expected. And they didn't mention rock in the kind of music the festival gonna have. It's more like a second "Couleur Café".

Don't think it's an error is it? It's still up there anyway

It is still there yeah, but I assumed with the “Hooray for Friday afternoon” and [Final Copy TBC] they hadn’t fully decided who they were revealing on Friday yet. And the tweet stops mid word haha

Jamie XX is already playing. Hoping for Little Simz and St Vincent.

    • Any festival is going to face most of the same limitations just by the nature of the event. It's not realistic to accommodate custom staging that extends out deep into the field. Trying to do so and trying to rebuild those kind of structures at the front of the field every day would severely impact on other performers, potentially even including other headliners. It'd also drive everyone involved insane. The most you can get away with is a basic extension that doesn't hide anything fancy. Remember that a lot of the time on these big choreographed shows, the stage extension itself will contain all manner of things to help the show beyond just being a simple platform. Also remember that these structures are designed to be assembled and operate on perfectly flat stadium or arena floors.   In terms of the stage itself - yes, the Pyramid is undersized (I believe 16 metres wide at rigging level). The de facto industry standard has become 20 metres and so it likely does need increasing and apparently there are plans to do so. But that only helps with artists that can largely confine themselves to the stage.   The Other Stage is already 20 metres - to be exact the Other Stage structure is the same model that Serious Stages provide to Reading, Leeds, Download etc for use as their Main Stage and there's nothing larger (at least off the shelf) in their catalogue. So no reason to change that.
    • Can someone remind me, on Harry Styles specifically - have we had any concrete info on him?   I don't personally remember saying much/anything on him, though I have just been away for a month, so could be forgetting something.
