That all sounds good in theory. In the heat of the moment aiming for arm or legs is a bit of an impossibility with any gaurantee of stopping someone. Ive been in a situation where someone has been tasered 3 times and still trying to kill someone.

When it's a kid with a knife you try. It's not like there's a certainty that she would have killed someone herself and to me that should be the benchmark. A couple of burly policemen could overpower a teenage girl by hand. Plenty of countries have unarmed police (including the UK for the most part) who deal with these kind of issues every day.

Yeah i wasnt on about that specific case just saying that tasers or aiming for legs is not necessarily an option that works. Of course you  hope that first try is the most minimal impacting action but sometimes that won't work.

The trade question must be very different now than compared to pre-Brexit? As there was an assumption previously that a Scotland leaving an EU-member UK, would be able to get fast-tracked membership of the EU, so UK/Scotland trade would fall under EU trading rules.

I guess now we've left the EU that's loads more complicated .

definitely more complicated...maybe Scotland would try and remain in UK single market...or there would need to be border checks!

I've been saying for years that Scotland would find it easier to go indy if the UK was in the EU as there's other different issues with the UK out of the EU... Seems like sturhgeomn is now pitching mega austerity to balence the books in comparison tory austerity was a spending spree. She's planning a spending freeze

Because, you know, ‘Good Old Boris’, the Tory press are blaming Cummings for leaking the texts about the PM’s dodgy deals etc. Apparently an internal investigation is underway to find the mole leaking the info - looks like they’re taking that more seriously than the breaking of the ministerial code?

Been thinking about the royals and the Duke of Edinburgh death the past few days. There was so much backlash against the blanket TV coverage and the 8 "days of mourning". And the weird thing is, a collective 8 days of mourning would sort have been good for the country. All the royals had to do was put out a statement saying we're in unprecedented times, so many have lost loved ones over the past year, and as we enter a period of national mourning, it's for everyone that's been lost, not just the Duke of Edinburgh.

It'd be such a simple, easy, costless thing to do. And would demonstrate actual statesmanship, (statepersonship?) would show an understanding of what people were going through... like, when I think of what a figurehead monarch head of state is for, it's *exactly* this sort of thing. It's actually quite shocking how absent the monarchy has been throughout this entire crisis, when it's the sort of non-political, collective responsibility thing they should be all over.

But everyone knows that would never happen. There's no way they would ever have turned it from being about the Duke of Edinburgh to being about everyone. And I've even mentioned it to royalists and and they've said that's a nice idea but it'll never happen. Like, they're so far gone not even their supporters can conceive of them doing something genuinely magnanimous.
