Good to see that the government is recognising where progress has been made and amending the rules accordingly

We wouldn't want progress to continue would we?  So 196 new cases per 100,000 in a week is fine? I'd rather see targeted support for hospitality that reversing the one thing that seems to mark out success in Greater Manchester.

can you find an outdoor area like a pub garden?

oh man that is so sad. I expect it is immediate, but don't know. You could meet and sit outside...or go for a walk or something? Weather forecast isn't great though.

Yeah I think she's looking at other options. My mind was just running through all the non-pub-y places that have outdoor seating around here but imagine they're going to be rammed! It is a shame, the whole thing.

Fingers crossed the restrictions make a difference and it becomes easier for us to socialise in some way again before long.

I mean, if you think it would be more appropriate to close hospitality in other areas, then that’s perfectly understandable. But my point is that is was anomalous that Bolton has stricter restrictions than other areas despite having a lower prevalence now.

The country would be a much better place if Burnham ever become PM (although I know he’s publicly declared in the past he has no intention of ever going for it).

No intention of going for it again, more like.  Obviously he's already tried, unless he'd planned on the Labour party staying in opposition forever if he stood for leader.

Exactly what I'm saying. If we're to make things consistent, then I'd rather we followed the area that's actually seeing a reduction recently.

He must have had some sort of intention when he went for Labour leader in 2015...

I also don't think he has ruled it out again but could be wrong

Anything yet on when these are coming into force? Is it immediate, for once?

I'm fine with it. It needs to be done. The galling thing is that on Sunday a friend and I were due to go for afternoon tea to commemorate the actual due date of her son who was tragically born and lived for just 15 minutes, a few months ago. Every step of the way through this pandemic she's just had more shit thrown her way, and we've been looking forward to this as a nice thing to do. Would be just like everything so far that this gets called off just out of time.

Usually they don't legally come into force until the Monday morning.

They can't legally fine you for breaking them until after the statutory instrument is released which is usually late at night Sunday.

You can see the full list here: https://www.hansardsociety.org.uk/publications/data/coronavirus-statutory-instruments-dashboard

Or follow Adam Wagner in twitter, he's a human rights lawyer that provides good commentary on them

It's not completely clear yet when they come into place. Keep an eye on Gov.uk or your local authorities Twitter account and they should let you know when they are go into effect. If I see anything I'll let you know.

Thanks, both. The BBC wording currently says "will come into force" (as opposed to these 'have' come into..)
Seems I'm not the only one wondering.

One of my work colleague based in Liverpool has tested positive, as her gran who went into hospital last week for stroke tested positive (asymptomatic mind you at 93!!) so she had to get tested. Her Dad, Uncle (who doesn't sound in a good way) and Fella all tested positive, plus her Mum and sister also been tested - I'd be surprised if they were negative as they had a small get together for her Mum's 50th in her house (I know they shouldn't have done that mind you)

Dad has his own car dealership business so be interesting how many are affected by that and not sure where the rest work, but that could be quite a cluster just based on 1 person catching it :huh:

Luckily my colleague works from home but has got my thinking what would have happened if she had been based in the office and how work would deal with that?? Might have to ask them

Hope her gran is doing ok

Fair fucks to her for being asymptomatic at that age. We could all do with being more like her. Although I wonder if the stroke was due to the covid.

Probably not everyone on here will agree with me but in certain situations it’s OK to ignore the restrictions. Your friends needs are absolutely more important.

Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.

Although I might normally disagree ... in certain circumstances assessments need to be made to asses welfare ... if that means safely as much as possible  ignoring restrictions and helping someone’s welfare and mental health then I do agree ...

I would absolutely argue that this case falls under the umbrella of “caring for a vulnerable person”

Agree here. If you're happy to take the fine if you get caught and it's exceptional circumstances etc.

This is our policy at the current time, I'd assume your workplace will have similar:

We would also remind everyone that we all have a responsibility to do everything we can to ensure the safety, not only of ourselves, but also of those working around us at all times by adhering to Government guidelines and the internal guidance we have published.

In general

If you develop coronavirus symptoms or someone you share your home with has coronavirus symptoms, including:

+     a high temperature;

+     a new continuous cough. This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more episodes of coughing in a day;

+     losing or experiencing a change to your sense of smell or taste

then do not attend any of the offices. If you are already in an office, go home immediately and book in for a test via the NHS website as soon as possible. Please let HR know about the arrangements for your Covid-19 test and the results ASAP.

Do not return to work until you have clearance from HR to do so.

Positive test

If your test shows you have coronavirus, you must inform HR as soon as possible and they will advise you on what to do.

If someone you share your home with has signs of coronavirus or has tested positive, you should stay at home for 14 days from when their symptoms started. This is whether you have coronavirus symptoms or not.

If you then start to have coronavirus symptoms yourself, you should stay at home for 10 days from when your own symptoms started.

Remaining staff will not be required to self-isolate unless they have been in close contact within the past 48 hours with someone that has tested positive.

Examples of close contact include:

+     close face to face contact (under one metre) for any length of time;

+     being within one to two metres of each other for more than 15 minutes – including travelling in a small vehicle.

The firm will arrange to deep clean the desk area (and the meeting room, if relevant) of the staff member who has tested positive and the desk will be quarantined until that has been completed.
