The government are just finally not taking any chances now we are so close to getting out of this. Something they have never done previously.

yeah, sure...and the media are reporting it and the concerns about these new variants....but that just gets labelled as doom mongering.

Not just us using Mass testing

Germany is to offer free Covid-19 antigen tests for all from March, the health minister, Jens Spahn, has said, as the country cautiously began allowing some children to return to schools.

Hope that works now. Until now it has`t worked very well. You should get it from pharmacies here for free, but i think that at the beginning there could be supply problems again.

My mate and I got drunk at the weekend and decided we are going to go to India in November for the 20 over cricket World Cup. Anyone actually think that would be viable? I reckon the holiday is prob more likely than the tournament!

Looking at the test match out there just now and talking to some Indian colleagues, they don’t give too much of a fuck over there. Everything’s open and mass gatherings are allowed.

And the cases are still falling dramatically.

Oh really? That's v helpful ta. Yeah, I saw the last test, they had reduced capacity - but everyone just seemed to be sat together in one section anyway. Crazy!

In my experience, having been before, not giving a fuck does seem like a very Indian attitude generally anyway!

How does that work then? I did see someone said that re the cricket, that cases are v low in Chennai (where it was held).

Not sure - even the scientists are confused:

Dare we whisper it, but an element of herd immunity maybe?

The next test match next week has crowds of 55,000 due in - 110,000 seater stadium, so 50% capacity.

Smallest cut in the daily cases for ages and corroborates recent ZOE data.

I sense that we are reaching a plateau now. Cases dropping to the minimum level we can expect.

It's still a 14% drop, that seems pretty good to me

We've booked for Goa for the winter, and a load of mates are coming out for 2 weeks when we are there.

I think it will be fine, flights refundable/rebookable anyway.

This is interesting to hear as I've just finished my training (to be a patient advocate rather than a vaccinator). Have you not started yet then? I finished my training on Sunday and DBS is done so now just waiting for access to the website you mention for shifts. Thinking it could take a while! Especially as it seems vaccine supply is slightly down for a couple of weeks so maybe they won't need anyone extra yet.

It's a shame as kind of raring to go now but just waiting. But definitely better to over-recruit than under-recruit.

I'm also signed up to the GoodSam app thing but there never seem to be any shifts on there. I know a couple of other people are - @Quark I think? - have you had any joy with that?

Same, not heard anything through either system which is a shame.

I think this might end up being like my "volunteering" for the 2012 Olympics where I get a letter from the prime minister thanking me for volunteering despite not actually being able to do any shifts because my London accommodation fell through 6 months before hand.
