School update: 

A decision has been made by the trust that it is only those who are clinically extremely vulnerable themselves who must stay at home, not those who live with them too. 
 

SMT have emailed me saying that I am expected to come in for the 2 days I am on the rota to do (the 2 days where I will be sat in an empty room streaming to my students at home) and if I still feel that I am unable to come in, I can submit a leave of absence form for the duration of the school closures but I will likely be unpaid for that duration. 
 

I have fortunately never experienced any kind of real stress or anxiety in my life before (I’m 28) and find it hard to accurately empathise with people who do suffer from anxiety (not in a cold way at all, far from it, it’s something I’ve never felt before. I hope people understand what I mean here, otherwise I fear sounding like some unfeeling monster). But how I’m feeling right now, I imagine this is what anxiety kind of feels like. This sucks.

It’s shit to be honest at points I’ve been shaking at work in the last few weeks ... my way through it is to be open about it and talk to people ... don’t bottle those feelings ... things will start to get better soon and hopefully that anxiety will drop along with the numbers ... keep posting all the best x

Sorry to hear that, it's really unfair. Perhaps you could arrange with colleagues for someone else to pick up the break duty work? If you're only teaching to an empty room most of the time your risk should be quite low if you can just hunker down there, bring a flask and sandwiches etc, get a high grade mask, change clothes and shower as soon as you get home?

Don't know enough about your situation (think you mentioned you're only with the vulnerable relative when working?) - Travel Lodge and various budget hotels are also available for people staying for work purposes, may be an option to stay there instead?

Or speak to your doctor, explain the situation and that it's stressing you out and they may sign you off sick with stress?

My sister-in-law has had a positive result confirmed this morning. She lives on her own and has two greyhounds. She has asked my wife to walk the dogs for her this afternoon until she can work out what to do with them. Is this a good idea? It seems like a stupid risk to take to me, but my wife is of the opinion that its very low risk and can be mitigated with sanitiser. Any advice??

I’d say if the dogs can be collected and dropped off to a back garden that’s accessed by a gate and the person walking them keeps hold of the dog lead and the owner is inside when they are collected the risk will be minimal

It should be alright. go with Crazyfools idea, or if no garden available 

Open all windows a bit before your wife goes round ➡️ Sister goes into a room away from the front door ➡️Wife enters and picks up dogs ➡️Use hand sanitizer on exit and avoid touching face ➡️walks dogs ➡️return dogs ➡️exit and use hand sanitizer again

Dog walking is pretty essential tbf. I think with something like this it would actually be less risky if the positive person just went for a walk, taking care to avoid people and preferably with a covering on their face. This is where the rules are a bit stupid IMO.

I had my jab yesterday and strongly suspect that I got salted rather than vaccinated, as I've had zero reaction (well, apart from a mild headache which was probably just a mild headache!). Slightly disappointing, but all good in the name of science and progress and all that jazz. Hope you're in the other 50%...

Thanks, we've managed to source some disposable gloves and the dogs can be collected from the garden. 

As an aside, my sister-in-law is a secondary school teacher and likely caught the virus on Monday. Cheers for the hesitation Boris!

Out of upvotes for today, guys, but thank you for the kind words. 
 

I’m going to have to go in for the two days, I think. I’ve spoken to my Nan and she said that she trusts me to be as careful as I can be at school. My two days on the rota are back to back (Tue and Wed) so I think the plan is going to be to base myself in Doncaster at my girlfriend’s (I don’t leave the house when I’m here and she tests twice a week as she is NHS and only leaves the house for work), drive to work on a Tuesday morning from here, stay at my Nan’s Tuesday night and then drive back up to Donny when I finish on Wednesday, which halves my Nan’s exposure to me. 
 

It is a shit situation and one that makes me even more pleased that I am going to be leaving that school at the end of this academic year.
