I do seem to recall Burgon as an outlier calling for a "zero covid" strategy before the mass reopening of things in July, the Eat Out to Help Out thing or the rush to send everyone back to uni and offices in September. But I feel like it'll just hit a brick wall - these kind of measures aren't political, and yet are viewed through a relentlessly political narrative that needs confrontation. Which is part of the barriers to overcome if pushing for such an approach now.

Ah what a shame that is. Maybe there was a point where that could've happened, but perhaps both the nature of the virus and the fact its on every continent makes such a goal far too ambitious.

It feels like this is a virus that, whenever any attempt is made to loosen things up, it just explodes again. So in the long run, what would coexisting with it plausibly look like?

Fine. And in fairness, I do seem to recall this has happened at least once, when NZ had a period of no community transmission on its islands then non-NZ people brought the virus in after slipping through the cracks and areas had to be locked down again. Australia has seemed to have had the same issues, given Melbourne and Sydney have been subject to periodic lockdowns.

Quite something that the US system means all their candidates seemingly have to be seen stuffing their faces with junk food but in the UK, you're apparently toast if you do that.

I have posted this previously, this is what the tories wanted to portray in 2015, the reality in 2017 was quite different. Not saying they won’t use the same scare tactics.

These two maps are incredibly interesting - it would be worth showing the restrictions mapped post November lockdown and how these tie up.

There shouldn't be any Xmas surge in the areas that were Tier 4 pre Christmas.

Mass vaccination completely changes everything. It finally makes reality the idea that we'll "live with COVID". It won't go away entirely, but it will be less deadly than influenza and we'll get on with life again.

For anyone interested, i went back and found the first tweets of #StarmerQuits. The first two were at 15:05 and the next at 15:09. 

In my opinion it's fake and from a group that's coordinated it outside of Twitter.

No wonder they're letting the virus spread and keeping this schools thing going - they need the distraction over the next few weeks for all of this coming out!
