I don’t know how true that is ... but it could be ... I mean obviously not as world class as the track and trace but decent none the less

To be fair we do seem to have some of the best scientific programmes but that would explain why other countries haven’t picked it up.

Don’t know who is doing the sequencing of viral isolates, but yes, there is some world class genomics in the UK. The Sanger in particular (one of my former PhD students is doing her postdoc there, she’s suitably impressed!). Also the data analysis that goes along with that is also top class (European bioinformatics institute at Hinxton for example). Having said that, genomics in Belgium,  Netherlands etc is just as good, more likely this variant arose in the UK, has been around since September and is becoming the dominant variant at the moment (like the Spanish variant earlier in the year), rest of Europe probably just a bit behind UK in terms of its spread rather than not picking it up due to inferior surveillance.

It's already in other parts of the country and has been since September but it's only London and the SE that it's currently going radio rental.

To be honest, I don’t really care for country achievements. As you say it’s a achievements of people from multiple countries around the world, everything we have achieved has been done through multiple advances of the human race.

Wasn't due to return to the UK till April, at this rate I think might be nearer the summer now 👀
