Are there any within the Conservative Party? I thought those with spines and the ability to think were removed before the last election? Four more years of these idiots. Good luck to us all.

This time in 4 years PM Keir Starmer will be congratulating President Elect Kamala Harris on her win 😉

I admire your optimism...but I reckon Boris Johnson's govt will win another election and republicans will be back in office (won't be trump though).

Absolutely no way will Boris Johnson be PM past 2021 let alone 2025.

EU vaccine procurement doesn't sound good

Think this is more a case of Germany being pissed off about German technology being used in other countries while still not being available in Germany yet! The EU has advance purchase orders for around 2bn doses (from pretty much the same portfolio as the UK...Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax, CureVac, Oxford/AZ, Jannsen, GSK/Sanofi)...I think it's sour grapes over GSK/Sanofi getting a big order! (and it looks like that one will be delayed...but more than enough in the other orders...860m of the ones that are pretty much ready to go, over a billion if J&J get the nod in the New Year)...but BioNTech have just started to manufacture in Germany as well (and are aiming for 750m+ doses next year), so I suspect Germany are looking for additional ones of an effective, approved vaccine to be ordered from them.

tenner?

If vaccines prove as effective as people think and things improve, the economy will bounce back pretty quickly, and I expect Johnson's govt will enjoy a bounce in the polls. If he can survive this pandemic and brexit, he won't go anywhere.

Reading the article though, it sounds like they haven't actually signed the contracts for moderna and Pfizer in time to get it until end of next year.... there were delays in getting the doses contracts firmed up.

Yeah.... I think if the vaccine roll out goes well then he will get credit.

Pfizer vaccine will be shipped in EU end of this year, as soon as it is approved basically, vaccinations due to start on December 27th. Think what's being discussed there are the extra 100m Pfizer doses they just negotiated (timetable for those has yet to be agreed though). But the initial 200m that were ordered will be delivered on time. They just doubled their Moderna order too, but as with the UK, Oxford/AZ will make a big dent in the numbers once it gets over the line.

Edit: I should probably read the article mind you!

The article wasn't particularly complimentary about the Oxford vaccine. Seemed to hint it may not get approved in the EU

It will, I really think this is a push to get more German vaccine ordered. Pretty much everyone turned down the doses offered by Pfizer in the summer as they were expensive (the uS did as well). Same with Moderna (most places outside the US only started agreeing to buy it once the phase 3 data looked good). The Oxford vaccine will be approved by the EMA, there's nothing wrong with the data (if they don't then there's nothing preventing national regulators from approving it under the same law that allowed the MHRA to approve the Pfizer one, and I'm pretty sure that's what would happen).

    • The Cheap Thrills at Mountford Hall, Liverpool.    They've been around for a while and have built up a large local following. Last night was their biggest yet, at a sold out 2,200 capacity venue.    It was a big old joyous, indie singalong from start to finish, the band clearly having the time of their lives. The debut album is out next month and they seem to be going down well on the festival circuit, maybe their time has finally come.   2 supports, I unfortunately missed Credits but the few songs they have on Spotify sound good, Americana vibes. The other was M60, reportedly Gary Neville's favourite band. If that's true, he's as clueless about music as he is football. To be fair, their sound was poor, maybe with a clearer sound they'd have been better but it was pretty dull.
