Six weeks of lockdown for us starting on Boxing day (although doesn't affect the Xmas bubbling). Seemingly tougher than the ones in Oct/Nov.

January lockdown is fine IMO. Most of us spend most of January at home anyway. It’s the perfect month for a lockdown.

Yeah, we had our highest daily figure in around 5 weeks yesterday (600+). Back in early Oct we were at 1,000+ per day so I'm hoping this will be early enough to stop us getting to that figure and if it wasn't for Xmas I'd say that would be the case but who knows what all the meeting up next week will result in.

Schools having a natural two week break should hopefully help things too.

I think our vaccinations are up to around 10,000 too which is encouraging as the official stat that was shared a few days ago had us at 4,000 I think so a good improvement over a couple of days.

It does mean that my daughter won't be able to have much of a 1st birthday which is a shame come to think of it although at least both sets of grandparents will be able to see her as they are part of our childcare support bubble...

Partly we do this as we've overdone it in December and are broke.

Whereas this December feels like January so will drag even more.

A January lockdown isn’t inevitable though, if we have one it’ll be because of the Christmas relaxation and the loosening of the last one too quickly.

If January normally sucks, why make it worse with a lockdown?

yeah, it was those I was thinking. There's a number of things NZ formally does for (just some of?) those places on an on-going basis.

In case it's passed you by, the UK vaccine supplies are also for places like Gibraltar and the other remaining almost-colonies (I've lost track of what they call them nowadays). It's much the same sort of thing, both countries looking after those smaller places they're meant to be helping look after.

tbf New Zealand do nick all the promising young rugby players on those islands and turn them into kiwis, so its nice that they pay them back with COVID vaccines

Agreed, I usually do a dry Jan and hammer the fitness and healthy diet. Not sure how if I can manage not drinking for a month if the only entertainment available is 'sitting in my home' (usually go to theatre/cinema/comedy on Say nights).

Also making me wonder if I can hack forgoing travelling for Xmas if I'm then going to be locked in for months.
