Mars bars and vodka works well, I think it was this forum that gave me the idea and I’ve taken it to the last 2. Might try something Different this year but probably need to get a move on

Do the Mars dissolve or does it need to be filtered/strained?

You melt it down first and as it’s cooling add the vodka and stir then it’s fine, put it back in the bottle and freeze.

Thinking of making a salted caramel/worthers/mars bar style vodka this year. I’ve never done it before though.
Can I just ask anyone who’s done a vodka like that in the past, do you drink it with a mixture and if so what?

Done the werthers  before, it’s really good. Pour some vodka in a glass to leave space. Crush some werthers and add to the vodka. Shake and add to the top shelf of a dishwasher and put it through a cycle without any tablet. The heat melts the sweets and it all mixes with the vodka, it’s really simple. Works with any boiled sweet.
We drink the werthers neat but you can mix with lemonade or something if you want.

Thanks Skelts! Unfortunately I don’t have a dishwasher but I’m sure I’ll find another way of doing it. I’m guessing mixing it with coke would make it a bit like Vanilla Coke (remember that!)

I did it a few weeks ago by just putting werthers in the jar, 700 ml of vodka and left it. Shake every 2 hours if possible (website guide said) although i did like 3-5 hours maybe + slept and it was done in about 48 hours. No need for a dishwasher

I've got a bourbon pumpkin pie one I made for 2020.  Loads of nutmeg and cinnamon, with the vanilla of the bourbon underpinning it, and the pumpkin adding sweetness.  I am amazed I've managed to leave it alone (mainly).

My son did a vodka harribo cherry with scotch bonnet one the same year.  We took the chillies out after a couple of days and it was bloody hot.  It's aged into something of a monster, with a lovely sweetness, followed by a searing heat...  certainly an interesting one.   Will probably make another one starting next month

Oh cool so did you just keep shaking sporadically till they had all dissolved? Sounds easy enough!

thanks for the advice all!

Thanks! I read a recipe earlier where someone added a pinch of salt towards the end to give that salted caramel taste 😋

I've done quite a few sweets flavoured ones over the years, and said I would not do again, as they can be a bit sickly after the first day.  The werthers was good, but the lemon sherbet and the acid drops were too much after a few sips.

I have a stash of flavoured ciroc vodka - as I find this the best out there, but am tempted to make some concoctions again after reading this thread again.  May try the pineapple tequila.

For anyone wanting to try @guypjfreak Turbo Drinks, here is the method!

hi all you know glasto time is near in my house when we start our turbo drinks .this year we have

orange

exotic fruit

apple

grape

you must use 3 whole juice cartons [not juice drink] for each flavor and you can mix and match and heres the recipe

1..you get your 3 cartons of say exotic fruit . you pour 2 cartons in to a demijohn and add a tea spoon of yeast .

2..leave for 2or 3 days it'll bubble like mad make sure you use an air lock ;);)

3..after 2 or 3 days [no more] add your 3rd carton plus sugar.... Here i must say that you can add a different flavor we are adding peach to our orange and tropical to the exotic . also the amount of sugar you put in the more alcoholic it will be obviously .

we are using about 1 pound per demi that should give us about a 15% drink :):)

4.. leave this bubbling away for about a week and a half in warm place then top up demi with water to neck and leave.

5.. it'll be ready to drink in 4/6 weeks just siphon off the little bit of sediment and stabilise then pour into plastic bottles and your ready for glasto ..we bottle ours the day before we leave .

if you dont have any demis we have used 5 liter plastic bottles before just cut a hole in the blue lids and use air locks just the same [just make sure the air locks are sealed ]

good luck every one hope you try this its great B)

happy Sunday all :D:D

ps

i didnt say old son once there so here it is must be going mad old sons :lol:

peace

Cheers! 🍹😂

Normally do a werthers but might give that one a miss this year.  Reckon I'll do another lemon sherbet but want to fiddle about and find a way to up the lemony hit without oversweetening.

Tried refreshers before but that was so-so.  Might go old school and try a rhubarb & custard this year.

Agree with the old comment that they can get a bit sickly, but for me they're more about taking something to pass around friends / people at the meet / complete strangers, so no-one's getting that much in a single hit anyway.

@Beerqueen was it your friend at the meet that year who was getting her head around just accepting drinks in unmarked bottles from strangers? 😂

Pear drop last year was such a big hit I may just stick with what I know!

Interesting, usual approach of just the sweets and vodka?  Or anything more to it than that?

Is this as simple as; whack a load of pear drops in vodka and let it sit for ages? Or do you have more graceful method you could share? 🫡

Mine with the sweeties is just that really.  Depending on how late I've left it I might smash them up a bit, but that can get a bit messy with sugar going everywhere (especially with lemon sherbets).

Trick is to keep rotating / shaking the bottle and giving them a stir with a skewer or a chopstick to get right down in the bottle.

I bashed the pear drops up a bit with a hammer as they wouldn't go through the top of the vodka bottle. Then I put it through a quick wash (45min I think, from memory) in the dishwasher because I hadn't left enough time.

Once it's dissolved, either through the classic method or dishwasher method, decant it into plastic bottles via a coffee filter - gives you the most beautiful clarity to it. But not essential by any means, cloudy tastes no different.

I posted this recently in another thread.  This is well worth a try, and very simple.  Cherry Bakewell.  Just mix equal measures of vodka, cherry brandy and ameretto.  That's it, nothing more to it.  Great in a hip flask at night, or can be mixed with lemonade or tonic I suppose
