right, here we go, if I can remember

First single: Not sure, there are a couple of contenders, one cool, one not so cool, who knows?  (It's almost certainly the not cool one)

First album: You mean like a record? On vinyl? The Wombles. I was a nipper, it was bought for me. Fuck you

First tape: Adam and the Ants-  Prince Charming

First CD: I was really stupidly late to CDs, I held off for 10 -15 years cos I didn't think they would catch on, must have been 24 or 25 when I finally capitulated. So, it was Renegade Soundwave

First download: Would have been on Limewire. When I first got a computer at home, I used to it get all the odd, obscure singles I thought I'd never see again. If I queued them up before I went to bed, I could wake up to as many as 7 or 8 songs. Imagine that. Youngsters today, don't know they're born, etc etc etc

First 'now' album: oooh, good question. Very early. Now 1 or Now 2. I chucked my tapes away a couple of years ago, remember finding them and deciding I really didn't need to keep them.

First gig: Billy Bragg at a Miners' benefit, 84ish or first one that was my choice, Transvision Vamp at Folkestone Leas Cliff Hall.

First glastonbury: 93. Worked on a tractor crew after the event for a couple of weeks. Changed my life.

I loved this song so much, I had a special dance that I made my mum and her friends watch at every opportunity.

Our Price thank you very much!

Deffo Our Price - I remember someone telling me that singles bought in Woolies didn't count towards the Top 40, which I took entirely at face value and so never bought any music from them. Funny the things that matter to you when you're 12...

I worked in Our Price as a Christmas temp in the mid 80's and our store was one of those whose sales counted towards the charts.

After every sale we had to surreptitiously make a note on a pad kept under the till without the customer noticing as it was meant to be secret and then send it to whoever worked out the charts each week. Very high tech in those days!

In the 80's Michael Eavis used to choose rather idiosyncratic Pyramid headliners; Ade, Fela Kuti, Gil Scott-Heron, Dr John etc.

Yes it always was a proper music festival, seen stuff here you'd not see anywhere else, and of course there was, still is, all the other stuff that goes on.

That's why I go.

"Did you see [insert radio friendly million seller here] while you were there?"

"Nope, I was wandering along a pathway and saw a band made up of a man playing the bagpipes and another on spoons accompanied by a group of Masai dancers and a stoned guy trying to play a bongo with no skins"

They've gone downhill mate.  Benny Bongo replaced the skin, just doesn't sound the same now.

Great thread, good work @slash's hat , this'll take some thinking though, my memory recall usually runs anything from 5 minutes up to 5 days.

First single: Couldn't tell you the track but I'm pretty sure it was The Specials, maybe Ghost Town.

First album: Bought by myself, that would be the Batman soundtrack by the sadly departed Prince.  Given to me by a friend of my dad's, Led Zeppelin IV.

First tape: Jimi Hendrix greatest hits compilation given to me by my dad, which has given me a lifelong love of all things Hendrix.  In fact my son was very nearly named Hendrix, but as with most important decisions the missus overruled.

First CD: Spandau Ballet - The Singles Collection

First download: Speaks volumes on how exciting it is to own an mp3 but I have no idea.

First 'now' album: that's a very tricky one, but looking at the track listings and vague memories of the cover art, I think it might well have been number 5, standout track for me Simple Minds and Don't You Forget About Me.

First gig: Simple Minds, Milton Keynes Bowl, 1986.

First Glastonbury: 1995. Talked into going by then girlfriend, bought a ticket from HMV 2 weeks before the festival. Glorious weather for the entire weekend.  Had a ridiculously good time and have not missed a year by choice since, will be 16 this year.

Age: 48 (last time I checked there was no age limit on fun, although I understand that it might be one of the Tory party's manifesto pledges)
