mario man
I'm going to bend the rules and ignore the secret opening track (need to rewind from start to find it), and the 90 second 'intro', to go for: Do or Die The Turning Tide Northern Lites
Harry49
Led Zep 4 and Joshua Tree are hard to beat, but a album new to me that has a sensational opening salvo is: Once I was an Eagle - Laura Marling Take the night off I was an eagle You know first 5 tracks blew me away when i first listened and hope to see her performing at least the first 4 in 8 weeks time. Yeah that Laura Marling album has a fantastic opening run. Wasn't too in to her before that album but was immediately won over on first listen after hearing those first few songs. I have given the Roses some stick on here, but that debut album remains the best album I have ever heard.

maelzoid
When you start digging in to the classic albums pile, there ends up being quite a few that really hit the spot.... Once > Even Flow > Alive Battery > Master of Puppets > The Thing That should Not Be And if you don't know this one, you really need some schooling... The Rainbow > Eden > Desire
billum
Yes too many really, but my first found stand-outs: Just A Little Lovin' > So Much Love > Son of a Preacher Man (Dusty Springfield) or One More Time > Sunday Papers > Is She Really Going Out With Him (Joe Jackson) or Red Rain > Sledgehammer > Don't Give Up (Peter Gabriel) or the winner has to be Help! > The Night Before > You've Got to Hide Your Love Away

FrancisH
Millionaire No one knows First it Giveth It's the kind of start to the album that gets all the cards on the table, stall firmly set out. Although it'd be even more spectacular if Songs for the Deaf, the 4th track, were 3rd
The Martini Police
As my favourite openings AM and the Stone Roses have already been mentioned, I'm going to throw The Black Keys - El Camino and The xx - xx into the mix: 1. Lonely Boy 2. Dead and Gone 3. Gold on the Ceiling 1. Intro 2. VCR 3. Crystalised

Probably one of the bands I miss the most at festival, they were always superb live at Glastonbury (2005 being one of my favourite Glasto sets ever)
