Stage Predictions 2017

I made this comment off the cuff as a joke yesterday, but I'm thinking about it again this morning;

Neil's info about The xx wanting to play the Park, us having "four" subs, them putting a relatively small act on the Other opposite Ed - is it actually conceivable The xx are headlining The Park on Sunday?

Cheers, I'll give the first a whirl.

Aren't Metronomy all but confirmed as JPT though? Otherwise I'd have banged Phoenix in there to headline.

Put it this way, everywhere they show is second or third down Sunday - in the midst of this expected Bazza-Chic-Perry Pyramid party.

I may have confused myself..

Are Phoenix definitely on the Sunday then? If so then aye, looks like they're one for the chop early on.

Nah that'd be a bloodbath. I believe they could very well be a special guest on there one day but there's no way they're playing a billed headline slot (especially as their only set of the weekend).

I was on about Phoenix into Justice third and second down Other.

Phoenix as John Peel headliner already happened last tour so it wouldn't be happening again and they're not the kind of act that plays West Holts by any stretch. So it'd have to be later on the Other or daytime Pyramid really, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't the former.

I raised this point yesterday. Along with The xx's and Emily's comments, I personally wouldn't rule it out just yet.

The problem with that is you'd need another big act opposite Ed as opposed to BBK to make sure there is aenough split across the stages. As it stands The Park would be dangerously rammed.

If The xx were to headline The Park you'd need someone like Green Day on the Other to make the crowds manageable.

We talking Phoenix into Justice on West Holts? Unpopular opinion, but would rather flip 'em with Phoenix against Ed, so that I have the guaranteed Sunday high.

Assuming @dentalplan meant Phoenix (3rd) into Justice (2nd) on Other with Metronomy headlining JP.

Phoenix headlining a stage would be ace but they're probably only big enough for JP which they've already done.

It wouldn't surprise me if The xx headline Other on Saturday. Alt-j could sub and still be against Foos, given the latter's extended set, and then you'd have your three Pyramid subs in poster order of National, Biff, KP.

Don't think there is any indication, other than every prediction has them rooted there. A Saturday evening sub slot to Alt-J on the Other - or even third down on there - removes them from the litany of must-see acts on the Pyramid on Sunday (unless of course, The National end up third on the Pyramid on Saturday, in which case I might as well give up on Phoenix.

Fair point. Keep forgetting they've already taken on the JPT slot.

ATCQ being added and headlining WH on the Sunday.

This would solve all my problems. Or give me that must see Sunday nighter. Last year was clash hell - this year, that closing slot seems to be clash meh about now.

Think so. But alas. Real life :P

I can see them playing a secret set say third down, when there's someone major on the Pyramid, for instance if K-Pez is third down and there's going to be a fairly major crowd over a mile away from The Park.

I can see Phoenix being third down on other stage, personally.

Think we all need to accept that Alt J are headlining the Saturday.

For those curious why I seem to care little for Justice, it's more that I haven't heard anything by them, rather than dislike. So if anyone wants to throw me some recommendations, I'll be very grateful.

Stress. I mean there's a lot more but this track is just something else

Are you thinking then that The xx, The National, Biffy and Katy P will be on the Pyramid stage if the Other headliners are looking to be Lazer, J and BBK?

I find it hard to see all of those on the Pyramid - tho it's not impossible - so take your pick for where you think one or more might be instead.

Can't be bothered to read the NME thing again but are BBK definitely headlining Other? Could they be on JP? Unlikely I know but just going through the possibilities. Anyway I'm going with this...

Radiohead The XX The National

Major Lazer

Foos Biffy

Alt J

Edward K-Pez

BBK

Perhaps wishful thinking, but I'm going to go with the idea that ATCQ are perhaps one of the bigger names missing in action - alongside Erasure.

So, let's see...

PY: Radiohead, The XX, The National, Stormzy
OT: Major Lazer, Emeli Sande
WH: Erasure, Goldfrapp
JP: The Flaming Lips, Halsey
PA: London Grammar, First Aid Kit

PY: Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Royal Blood, Lorde
OT: Alt-J, Haim
WH: The Jacksons, Solange
JP: Future Islands, Father John Misty
PA: Warpaint, Tove Lo

PY: Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Chic, Barry Gibb
OT: Boy Better Know, Justice
WH: A Tribe Called Quest, Run the Jewels
JP: Metronomy, Moderat
PA: Laura Marling, The Cinematic Orchestra

Not wholly satisfied with that again. But hey ho.

I've gone to do one of these like five times over and each time I realise the lineup is too stacked and I'm left with a bunch of big acts in spots too low for them. It's also times like these when I realise I don't have a fucking clue so give up half way:

PY: Radiohead, The xx, Royal Blood, Emeli Sande, Stormzy, Kris Kristofferson, Kate Tempest,
OS: Major Lazer, Courteeners, Flaming Lips, Run the Jewels, Glass Animals, British Sea Power, Maximo Park, Manic Street Preachers.
WH: Bonobo, DJ Shadow, Songhoy Blues,
JP: Future Islands, First Aid Kit, ..., Temples,
PA: Ride, (Secret set: Elbow), Mark Lannegan, Angel Olsen, Hamilton Leithauser, The Lemon Twigs,

Saturday:

PY: Foo Fighters, The National, Katy Perry, Kaiser Chiefs, Craig David, Shaggy,
OS: Alt-J, Lorde, London Grammar, Phoenix, Clean Bandit, Wild Beasts, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes,
WH: The Jacksons, Solange, The Avalanches, Toots & the Maytals, BadBadNotGood,
JP: Dizzee Rascal, Circa Waves, Goldfrapp, Kano,
PA: Warpaint, (Secret set: The xx), Real Estate, Joe Goddard, The Moonlandingz, All We Are,

Sunday:

PY: Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Chic, Barry Gibb, Blossoms, Rag'N'Bone Man,
OS: Boy Better Know, Haim, Laura Marling, George Ezra, Wiley,
WH: Justice, Little Dragon, Anderson Paak, Thundercat,
JP: Metronomy, Moderat, Sleaford Mods, Halsey, The Amazons,
PA: The Cinematic Orchestra, Sampha, ..., Alvvays,

Are you actually having a laugh? An every stage clash? I feel sick.

    • You do get some weird swings here and there, so... Cypress Hill?
    • It was great, but I don't know why they continue to play Wide Lovely Eyes and Rings of Saturn, which are the weakest of the tracks off both PTSA and ST. Well, I do. It's cos they're about Suzie, so he can sing what he wants. They're the low points of the set. The rest is ace.
    • I didn't this time, but I've seen them before and just because you saw both that night doesn’t mean you can compare them. The Stones were great, but.you didn't think so and you went somewhere else looking for a good time and you found it. For whatever reason you didn't like it, but you were an outlier and all the reviews said they were great.
    • Annie Lennox could be the one to unite the whole forum, nobody has a bad word to say about her, even noted curmudgeon Skip 😄 I'd probably even amble along for a bit meself, and i'm also a miserable sod
    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27, or that's what I've been told. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, i.e a verbal agreement for 2028, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
